I absolutely love mine. Just tried it the other day and it was the best chicken I've ever had.

Weber gas grill+grillgrates+hand full of pellets. Not equal to charcoal but for a quick steak or burger it works.

Looked to me like you had a layer of aluminum foil under most of the device. I didn't see that in the instructions. I would assume that would change the way the charcoal ignites.

Good review. I think if you need a flavor Q, you should really just have a small charcoal grill that you can use. But man.... those steaks do look tasty!

Can't you place the grill off to one side and use the gas side for cook, flavrq will just infuse charcoal flavor at that point?

Would you say the sear was better/faster than if you had just tried to sear it on the gas by itself?

Tom Here's a question since I think your a weber authority. Amazon has the 70th edition kettles for 239.00 right now. I really wanted one and I could not stop myself. I have a red limited edition that I use all the time. I have no need to use this new grill. This is where my question comes in, with some of the quality control issues should I open box and check for all parts and inspect bowl and lid and make sure everything fits correctly. I spoke to weber And bottom line 30 days to make claim of shortages or damage. I was just wondering what value for future sales if box is unopened. What suggestions do you have?

Thanks John Knapp

I did see in some forum which a weber rep made comment that the problem was around 1%.

Just put charcoal on it get it lit then turn the gas off if you want to cook over charcoal.

This is a gimmick and a joke. If you know anything about grilling and smoking then you should know to get true smoke flavor you have to smoke low and slow!!!! I suppose you could do indirect cooking. Put this gimmick on one side of your grill with wood “chunks”and turn on the heat and put your meat on the other side of the grill and let the heat and smoke generated cook your meat!!!

Looks like a gimmick to sell a byproduct nobody wants.

Tom,

Thanks for giving the FlavrQ grilling system a try. Looks like you got a nice sear on that steak and achieved great tenderness as well. Our chef recommended some tips and techniques that should increase the charcoal flavor in your proteins:

· Be sure to place the protein on your grill grates when the ChipCharwood is mostly glowing. Waiting longer loses the charcoal flavor.

· Leave the grill lid open so that the ChipCharwood receives full oxygen throughout your cook. You had a nice idea trying to take advantage of the smoke, but FlavrQ is not intended to be used as a smoker. Closing the lid suffocates the oxygen needed for live fire cooking.

· Try searing the protein first, using the lowest grate in your grill, and wait until achieving this to your satisfaction before transferring to a higher grate.

· Additionally move the protein to a higher grate or cooler spot on your grill whenever encountering flare-ups. Live fire cooking demands constant attention to ensure even cooking and that no part of your protein gets overcooked. Closing the grill lid is another way to control flare-ups, but only when they happen. It’s best to leave the lid open throughout the cook.

We have many satisfied FlavrQ users, including some of the industry’s most well-known barbecue personalities. We appreciate that you called attention to some recommendations we need to make clearer, most importantly that the grill lid should remain open. Please give it another try and let us know if these tips help.

Smokey Joe or Jumbo Joe + B&B for the win! Or the full 22", if funds and space can be afforded.
