Maxine Nightingale ~ Right Back Where We Started From 1976 Disco Purrfection Version
Показать описание
Maxine was born November 2, 1952 in Wembley, London. One of three children born to Benny & Iris Nightingale, she sought out music by joining a band through school. That led to the start of her singing career and several singles were issued by Pye that did not make a dent on the charts at all.
After a stint in the late sixties performing in a West End production of "Hair" she moved with the cast to Germany and while an active cast member, stole the heart of the director whom she married and had a child with in 1973.
She went back to London with her family in tow and left the stage behind. A fateful session found her vocalizing for Al Matthews 1975 single "Fool" where producer Pierre Tubbs asked the writer of that song, J. Vincent Edwards to write something for her. Maxine flatly refused to record it, but Edwards, who had worked with her in Germany, persuaded her with the promise that the song would come out under a pseudonym and that she should take a royalty rather than the normal $45 session fee she would have gotten. She was about to become a very rich woman.
One can imagine how she felt when the song was released in the UK on United Artists Records under her own name and it became a surprise UK hit peaking at #8 in 1975. Once American radio got a hold of it, it beat a path to #2 where it stayed for two weeks while The Bellamy Brothers "Let Your Love Flow" and John Sebastian's "Welcome Back" tied up the #1 spot.
It was also featured in the hockey themed Paul Newman comedy "Slap Shot", however the DVD release did not have permission to use the song and it was taken out. Anybody else remember that?
