His original plan was to finish his story. Unfortunately, he changed that plan.

His style of writing (letting the story unveil itself to him as he writes) can make for some great stories. But it has an inherent flaw that we are now experiencing, which is that sometimes it can lead you down paths that are hard to recover from. And sometimes you're not sure where to go next.

George identifies with Samwell Tarly, but he truly embodies Doran Martell. A bunch of half baked plans and missed opportunities.

George needs to start adding trellises and irrigation to his garden if he wants to be finished. Some structure and planning is important when you have a story to tell, especially as one as massive as this.

No one is upset he changed his original plans— that happens almost always in writing. People are upset that he doesn’t seem to be making an effort to finish the series. For the last 13 years, his blog has demonstrated that he will take any and all excuses, no matter how minor, to avoid writing Ice and Fire.
