Didn't even notice them sneaking up on me!

In this short clip, I was so focused on the tree branch ahead of my kayak that I didn't even notice I had two visitors sneaking up on me. Manatees are awesome and many times curious, but remember to respect them, give them their space and don't touch them. Manatees can move freely through saltwater, brackish and freshwater. These two manatees were encountered in completely freshwater.

Manatees are really sneaky, and have fostered a reputation of being completely harmless. But notice how they make a beeline when they think a fisherman is alone only to abandon the attack when they spot the Go Pro.

While fishing Cocoa Beach canals, had a Manatee by the boat for 45 minutes wanting to be petted then rolled over wanting it's belly scratched, like a big dog. I'll never forget.

When I saw them moving I thought they were crocs and I didn't realize until you said what they were. That went from terror to awesome real quick.

I used to go to Crystal River every February to see some manatees with my kids and they are beautiful creatures, most of the time the mothers will swim by us with their babies, it’s so cute

That’s what they do. They sneak up on you and then pull off your kayak and have their way with you. I’m still in therapy.

Whoa! At first, I thought they were sturgeon! Where I live, they're catch-and-release, and they get used to having people reel them in just to pet them and let them go again. It's almost a rite-of-passage with some of the younger folk.

At first i thought they were alligators and im thinking you have to be crazy or stupid to be in a boat that small with alligators on those waters instead it turns out they were manatees which is by far the best case scenario here

a couple cows those ladies are. 😂 I would be okay with this. When I was 14 I was swimming in a creek in Arkansas. I never noticed that around a sharp bend was a beaver lodge. No dam, just the lodge. But momma and daddy beaver let me friggin know when I got too close. BOTH of them swam into me one after the other hard enough to knock my legs out from under me. Those little tree biters may as well be made of solid wood themselves. I had bruises on my right thigh for a month. Big purple and green ones.

It seems like they love to “people watch”. I’ve noticed them doing this around piers and boat ramps occasionally. They seem to do it in the locks too! 😂

I was kayaking just off some grass flats watching a bunch of sharks in the 4-6 foot range moving around in the shallows. I was sitting where it dropped off to about 10ft deep when a huge manatee bull in the 12-13 foot range surfaced about 3 feet to my left and slightly behind me. Considering that sharks were everywhere, it scared the holy bejeebers out of me. I might have cussed :)

Beautiful creatures ....& very gentle The think another for them is Sea don’t quote me that could be Dugong....nature is wonderful isn’t it?
