In today's video, Paul from The Studio Rats is seeing how close we can dial in a Dumble style tone using a Boss Katana Artist Gen 3.
My favourite amplifier is an Amplified Nation Overdrive Reverb this amp is based on a Dumble ODR. The Katana Artist Gen 3 has just been released and with the new amplifier type called PUSHED and the new BLOOM button I think we will be able to get closer than ever in dialing in this sort of tone.

That's a wonderful demo, that shows us mere mortals, that we can almost achieve the tone(s) of our favorite unobtainable amp (s) that we dream of at pocket friendly price, Cheers Paul.

Pretty dang close. Well done. I have both, and both sound great. Katana is an unbelievable value and all around tool for creating and playing music.

I love this channel! I bought this boss katana because you make it sound so good and I love when you teach us how to make it sound like classic amps! Thank you!

I think that's a wonderful job 👍🏻 making that tone...I have the Artist Gen 3 combo...and yes I can deep dive into BTS but with a drive a gate and a RV 6 in the loop almost every tone imaginable it available at the front panel with the new Bloom feature. Well done Paul 😎👊🏻💯

I only play high-quality tube amps, but I also own two 100-watt Katana 212 combos (Mk II and Gen 3) to find out how far you can get with these amps. It's always amazing to hear how close Paul can get to the sounds of great tube amps with his Katanas.

Of course, it will never sound one hundred percent like the original; most tube amps sound different, even if they are the same model. But anyone who has given up their prejudices against the Katana will have to admit that this is a great amplifier with which you can get very close to your sound ideal (at a low price) as soon as it comes to a classic timbre.

As a self-confessed tube freak, I am glad to have given up my aversion to this amplifier.

Best regards
Mic

If possible, I'd like to see how you would use the Boss Katana with the ToneX

Is that the Strat with the Kinman Pickups?
Sounds Great as always, Thanks...

Again a very good video. Thanks for that. When referring to the "Dumble" sound you can ask yourself which Dumble? They were made specific for different players and they all sound different. I remember a discussion between Larry Carlton & Robben Ford about this and they sounded completely different. But the new generation Katana does a great job I have to say. Tonex does also a great job with their ODS legends pack and if I use a tube amp the Crazy Tube circuits Unobtanium pedal gives me what I want.

Great tone sir, and tasty top end playing as always! i almost bought a Katana when it came out, but decided against it to get tonex instead.
I use tonex Dumble captures for my sounds, I highly suggest any player that wants a dumble sound to try out the tonex sofware or pedal.
great stuff Rats!

Speakers are the difference. Going through the same cab helps mitigate the tone differences.

From what I heard Dumble amp is not about the tone but the response, the feel.

Have you considered using some sort of MIDI controller to switch the amps and cabs on the KHE? That way you'd be able to switch amps on the fly with a footswitch instead of having to bend down to flick a switch.

5:40, the boss katana is voiced more like a fender amp ?? first I've heard that ?? 😮

Another excellent vid Paul - I bought a Katana 50 Gen 2 Ex inspired by your channel - lacking the Push etc of course but suits me fine. Will you be at Kempton Guitar show this month?

The pushed channel responds much better to passive single coils than say an active humbucker. The amp is also very sensitive to the speaker choice.
