Just two months ago I purchased 7.6 and now we are at version 8.
Well at least the upgrade was not expensive and the backing track function is really great.
I just took another approach to sync it up. Moved the track to the perfect start point and then adjusted the beats per minute so everything matches perfectly up.
Guess my guitar teacher was slightly off. After syncing the song went up from 180 bpm to 192 bpm.

I already knew that, but that's show how perfect your transcription is! Amazing feature.

I had to make this kind of syncing using both Audacity with its tempo feature and GP7.6 scores. And it was a nightmare to start playing both files at the same time. I'm glad GP8 has this functionality now.

Hey Levi, great job explaining this feature !
There's one thing I should correct though regarding the import/export of sync points and tempo automations from the score to the audio track and vice versa, which is that while enabled, the audio track will actually always control the tempo of the playback despite the presence of tempo automations on the score. Which means, once you set up a bunch of sync points, you actually don't have to export them to the score as tempo automations (and then hide them all) to get a synced playback !
The "Create Sync Points from Score Tempos" entry allows you to import the already existing automations from your score into the audio track as a starting point for synching to be further adjusted (so that you also have the option to start the synching process from scratch).
The "Create Score Tempos from Sync Points" can be useful when having an audio file that was played with a metronome and will only need a few sync points which will represent actual tempo changes that need to be indicated on your score rather than fluctuations due to interpretation or to a live setting.
The "half way" solution is to transform sync points individually by right clicking on them -> "Transform to Score Tempo Automation".
Lastly, you can temporarily chose to disable the audio track by using the switch on the top left of the window which will mute the audio file and give back the control of the tempo to the score.
Happy syncing !

Was just playing about with this and I absolutely love! HOWEVER... I just made 30 minutes of adjustments before the software crashed on me, putting me back to a state before I had aligned the audio track with my tab. REMEMBER TO PERIODICALLY SAVE YOU WORK PEOPLE

Hi is there a playlist of all your GP8 tutorials? Also is it possible to view all the song parts ( voice, guitar, bass, drums ) in one scrolling sheet all togheter?

Perfectly explained import audio in GP8 and sync score with that track! 5:10 see the additional comments to this discussion.

Is there like a way we can slow down the import audio?

I'm sync every quarter note and I wish there was a quicker way than dragging the line over. I use GP8 for drums.

That's really cool Levi. I have 7, GP haven't emailed me to say 8 is out, so thanks for letting me know.

I have tried recording audio on youtube and then changing the exstension to MP3, then importing into a GP file but i am not having any luck with syncing the beginning of the guitar parts

I'm eager to dive into this new audio feature. Often I will buy the tab from the arranger for a solo (finger style) guitar piece, then want to "play along" with an actual audio file the arranger has published on youTube. The problem (as you might guess) is that the artist/arranger rarely plays to a steady beat, this the tempo of his/her playing never exactly matches the tab arrangement in GP8. Before this new GP8 version, I would try to compensate for this by manually making tempo adjustments to the GP8 tab file. You might guess this is "iffy", however, as my tempo change guesses are just that.

So I'm really hoping this new import audio feature will give me the tool I need to finally produce perfectly synced audio and GP8 tracks.

One question to go along with that. Let's assume I did indeed perfectly sync the audio and the Tab tracks... Does that tempo information (a "tempo map") then automatically get exported when I export a midi file to my DAW (such as Studio One)?

If that indeed does work, then it would be a snap to sync the audio track within Studio One with the original video file. (Studio One can sync video... although it is a little crude in how it works... but at least it can be done.)

Hey Levi! Fantastic track - what is it? Or is it still a secret?

awesome! Perfect tutorial, thanks!
But for some particular songs guitar pro 8 does not load the music file or is unable to. Seems a little buggy.

Been using G P 5 for years. the audio feature is awesome. But there are a lot of features that I use in version 5 that are no longer here. For one where is staff per Staff view. A lso the looping with count in doesn't work Right. If Your loop starts on Beat 3 It counts in 7 beats. 😢 Like the Audio. Everything Else is worse.

but how do you handle fermata with this. The moment i put in an audiofile alle fermata won't work anymore in my score. How can i line up a single note now with the audio, since fermata won't work in score, but it's in the audio. And sync point are only possible on bars, not on single notes. Or what am i missing?
