Same year Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic in a plane with a gas tank so large he couldn't see forward. This high flyer was much more sophisticated, if you ask me, and I had never heard of it.

Many pilots from this era lost consciousness at high altitude, not truly understanding the risks, and met their fate if the didn't wake up in time on the way down, or couldn't recover from the inevitable stall or flat-spin caused during the uncontrolled fall. It's surprising to see them using liquid oxygen this early, I would've thought they'd only be using compressed gas cylinders. The additional fire risks from such primitive liquid oxygen systems must have been substantial.

OK, the plane described in this poster is obviously intended for scientific and engineering flight test, testing how both machines, and men, will perform at high altitudes. It's interesting that it had an open cockpit since closed cockpits were already common. 83 degrees below zero? Wow, what kind of altitudes were they getting up to in that thing?
