The first successful non-stop transatlantic flight was made by the British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Brown in 1919. They flew a modified Vickers Vimy bomber from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada to Clifden, Ireland, a distance of approximately 1,890 miles (3,040 km), in just over 16 hours.

The flight was a significant achievement in aviation history, as it demonstrated the feasibility of long-distance air travel and paved the way for future transatlantic flights. Alcock and Brown were awarded the £10,000 prize by the Daily Mail newspaper for being the first to complete the flight.
