Dangerous KJV Only ⚠️

“Who cares what the Greek says.” 😳 I have nothing but love for KJV only folks who are kind and thoughtful about it, but this sort of thing is just wrong.

The note from the translators to King James in the original 1611 edition essentially says when the language of this Bible no longer matches the language of the people, it will be time for a new translation. Even the translators of the KJV were not KJV Only.

I have, unfortunately, sat under this man’s preaching a few times as well as many other KJVO. I love the King James, but you simply don’t know what you don’t know when reading it. There are many “false friends”, as Mark Ward puts it.

I think this is normal for KJVO. I grew up in a church that would throw any other translation in the trash. The church camp I went to every summer was the same way. I remember one year an NIV 84 was found, someone left it in the sanctuary. Trying to find the owner felt somewhat like a witch hunt.

I always wonder what I, as a german, am supposed to do in the oppinion of KJV-Only-people. Do I have to read the KJV in english? Or do I have to translate it into german? Am I at least allowed to read the Bible in Martin Luthers Version from the 16th century, as it is also based on the textus receptus?

This whole discussion is so crazy and ridiculous if you think it through :D

I have a skeptical view of the Bible from a historical standpoint, but I think it's disrespectful to dismiss the original languages from which the manuscripts were written in. While I don't think it's necessary to learn Hebrew or Greek, I think it's essential in developing a deeper understanding of the writings.

If every word of the KJV is the word of God, then that means the Apocrypha are the word of God too. Because the KJV is an Anglican translation, the Apocrypha proper, along with 1-2 Esdras and the prayer of Manasseh, were translated and originally put in the same volume. But this preacher does not look Catholic or eastern.

Sincere, but misguided tradition-loving Cheistians are entitled to their false opinions. No, the KJV is not the most accurate English translation, since it has many mistranslations of words and sentences, compared to the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek manuscripts. In fact, the ESV, NASB, LSB, NYLT, and The Scriptures are far more accurate and clear than the outdated KJV.

Infamous KJVO figure Peter Ruckman made similar comments about "correcting the Greek, " but if you actually tracked his reasoning carefully, you'd realize that it was his sly, sarcastic way of saying that the critical text (Westcott-Hort or Nestle-Aland) was incorrect in places where it departed from the Greek text assumed by the KJV and that modern lexicons were less trustworthy with their English glosses of Koine Greek words than the 17th century Anglican scholars were with theirs. Unfortunately, Ruckman's irresponsible, vitriolic rhetoric was taken literally not only by his opponents, but also by many of his successors.

How is this dangerous? Proper translation in English. Look back at words in Greek with multiple definitions and use the KJV to know which one is correct. God promises to preserve his word. Psalms 12 is translated correctly in only the KJV. This promise is void in every other Bible. But the Greek says it
