I grew up kjv. What changed it was Dr. Charles Stanley. Also one word translated different changed my view of God. Chesed translated in kjv mostly mercy gave me a sense of an angry God that i needed to plead for him not to judge me. When i learned the word is translated lovingkindness, I was like wow This God is kind in the Old Testament. Love and kindness together .

I remember being a KJV-Onlyist and feeling ready to do battle with those who used modern translations. I remember reading Gail Riplinger's book and believing others like her. I'm thankful I eventually came out of that and am so blessed now to be able to enjoying using any number of good modern translations and also still the King James as well on occasion. Good work on being patient with those who disagree with you! It is worth it.

It’s legit concerning to see people who think you’re not a Christian or not a “True” Christian if you’re not reading the KJV only. I say this as someone who grew up reading the KJV. But it is heartening to see that wanting to read the word of God in an understandable language is an idea that is at least reaching some people.

What a heartwarming revelation, Mark. One never knows how much ground can be made by patiently working with others who have differing points of view on bible related issues. Kudos to you, my friend!

God is always woking in us and on us. I think many of us might be able to relate to your friend's testimony. The ties that have bound so many to the KJV are loosening and plenty have let go completely. Thank you so much for being a light in the darkness. I've learned so much from you.

I'm married to an IFB KJV only individual (occurred after marriage) and I've been non denominational for 10+yrs ... but to honor him (as it is a huge area of offense for me to separate spiritually from him with the kids) .. our family is part of the IFB movement. I ask people to pray for us. It's not easy. I try to just forget my past heavy involvement in the ministry and now just cope as a silent tag along. Sometimes I act as an object so I don't have to deal with the tension. Lord help us. Prayers are appreciated. Blessings!

I’m happy to hear that you receive encouragement like this, and I’m “demanding” the video idea where you share more 😊

Hi Mark,

I have a question for you…the following two verses seem to dispute the account of David slaying Goliath (1 Samuel 17:50 2 Samuel 21:19).

In the KJV, the words “the brother of“ are italicized, which means that the translators of the aforementioned translation inserted these words. So basically, the harsh criticism from KJV onlyists concerning this account are null and void because it says the same thing as “modern” translations without the added words.

How would you address this please?

Thank you

Mark, I know this is a 3 year old video but I had to tell you that your book, The Use and Misuse of the KJV Bible, along with the book The Forgotten Preface, were instrumental in my view of the KJV. I still use and love it today and it’s my main, but I have several other versions now as well and am not afraid to use them. Thank you for all you have done on this issue. Your thorough research and your graciousness in speaking to others on this issue speaks volumes. Again, thank you.

Lol, at 5:45 I am totally distracted by how much text you are either reading or quoting--while continuing to drive and look all over the place, haha. How did you do that?

James White’s book, “The King James Only Controversy” after watching many videos of his and vehemently disagreeing with him is what ultimately lead me away from the KJV only movement. As I continued to dive deeper into theology, I often found myself wanting to avoid the topic of textual criticism, maybe because at that time I was convinced those who engaged in such were adamantly wrong, but there came a time in my pursuit to go deeper I had to humble myself and just read the other side, not just White’s book but others as well. Long story short, after much study and wrestling with the text, the history (transmission and translation), in good conscience and humbled before God I could no longer advocate for KJV Onlyism. I too came to realize the dishonest and sometimes straight lies that would come out of that movement from it’s leaders and the knowledge and documented facts stacked too high against the KJV Only stance that I could no longer see it. Truth be told, I am thankful for people like White. His book and others on this topic will in time rescue many from the KJV cult. I am hoping that God will use me too to reach others as you have Mark, God bless.

I just ordered a single column NASB bible. I am so excited to read it. Grew up on the KJV, was in a semi KJV only mindset for ever. How ignorant and self righteous i was...i look forward to reading an alternative translation!

Just left a KJV ONLY church. My last response was to point out that the NKJV 1979-1982, MEV 2015 and Green Literal translation were based on Textus Receptus.

I was KJVO until 2015 when I did my own research. In 2015 I latched onto the HCSB, moved to the NASB95 and now am greatly anticipating the full release of the LSB!

Am I the only one that gets "the creeps" watching/listening to Mark correctly getting these lengthy quotes spot-on while driving? :)

I must admit, I live in the North-Eastern part of Pennsylvania (Easton), travel regionally, New York City, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Amish country and northward and I never came across anyone that is a "King James Only-ist" not around here anyway. In my 65 years I've regularly open my bible to many different people and no one ever asks to the sort "What translation is it?" While it's true, King James is still popular around here, if we use bibles that don't have "thees" and "thous" people are glad. The bible was even the foundation of many towns in my area; Nazareth, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Philadelphia and Moravian communities. One possible reason might be many of these were originally German or Pennsylvania Dutch settlements, so they didn't start out using the English "King James" bible (we even have a town "intercourse" certainly not from the King James "Know" ). The larger problem around here is that people just "believe in Jesus, " he loves you and forgives you, and therefore you can live however you want and he will forgive you because you believe. Not much more from the bible is needed (from their POV).

If the KJV is the only Bible that should be read, and if it is the "standard" which has never been altered (which it has). Then why did it contain the Apocrypha for 274 years and did not remove the Apocrypha until 1885? Seems to me if God was going to create just one Bible that we should read then he wouldn't have allowed the Apocrypha to be part of it for 274 years and then in 1885 remove it. This and 1000 other inconsistencies are examples of why the KJV-Only movement is ridiculous.

The KJV-Only people that I have meet seem to embrace every conspiracy theory known to mankind. Thank you for your video!
