To anyone freaked out about the cognito hazard, and that genuinely felt unnerving dread and that something supernatural was happening, just know that it's all our brain's fault.

I read the phrase several times in the comments before Wendigoon explained it. Nothing happened. Then after he explained it I felt extremely creeped out and had shills down my whole body, and I didn't even look at the image.

What's happening here is the nocebo effect. When we trick our brains into believing something to the point that it works, in a bad way.

I know a lot of people are skeptical, myself included, and still felt really weird about it. That's because you consciously know it's fake and nothing will happen, but subconsciously you're thinking "hold up... But what if...?" And that freaks you out

The water experiment has a pretty solid basis, honestly. It's perfectly acceptable that different qualities of water (river vs city vs dirty/clean or what have you) would make different ice forms and such. Y'know. Chemistry and the like.
It just takes a very sharp turn at some point.

Oh my god, after he said that code I felt tremendous, crushing, inescapable ennui, vast vistas of eternal nothingness stretching out before me. Not fear, not even despair, but the utter lack of any hope to the point where even feeling depressed seems to not be worth it in the cosmic scope of existence.
