You know what I like Kenny, you can see a gust of wind coming with the Cape Cod, fun to watch. I think since 1935, made in the USA

I have the wind instruments of these and in 2017 we had a major severe t storm with steady high winds and wind driven hail. These cape cods measured up to 80 MPH. Was steady 65-75 for good 15 min. Compared them to several other more expensive systems of mine and compared very well. Takes a bit getting the anemometer to start. Think around 5 MPH or so as they have some magnetic cogging. But run well in high winds. Didn't notice any issues with overshoot.

Man that's beautiful Kenny.
I just got the wind speed, you got the whole shebang ! You be da man.
I have had my meter for 3 years now, love it. To heck with digitals. These just have some good old class .

This is cool to see. I searched on YouTube to see if anyone had made a complete installation video showing the soldering of the wires and came across this video. No one’s made one though.

My grandfather bought a wind direction and wind speed indicator decades ago but never got around to putting it together before he passed. The paper instructions are still legible but time has clearly had it’s affects on the paper. But they made the print so small lol. I’m looking forward to setting it up and I’m curious if it’ll still work.

Did you make the wood mount yourself? I don’t have that, so I may just have to make something similar because it looks very nice.

Fun to watch the old school gauges working, better than digital, I collect these wind meters and weather instruments, if you ever find a wind direction meter with works with needle full 360 degrees rotation just grab it, a lot of fun to watch it, they dont make those anymore, mostly were made for serious work, airports, marine...thanks for the video Kenny, it is unique video here in youtube

Kenny... do you find this wind instrument to be as sensitive at the lower wind speeds like your Davis weather station? In other words, it picks up the very light winds just as well as the gusty winds, correct?

Hi Kenny,

I love to see these old-fashioned instruments! I saw your three installation video's of this weather station and I like to warn you for a dangerous (possibly fatal) situation. I noticed unshielded electrical contacts at the back of the wind direction meter which contain hazardous voltages of 110 V AC. I advice you when working at it to remove the AC power first.

I didn't see anything but I may be blind. How old are these and did they come from eBay ? I know it's all digital today. I was going to get me the same set-up in 1994 but was hesitant to buy these due to it being inaccurate so I got the Maximum digital station instead for $595 for the wind sensors and read-out. I still love these analog stations tho. There also was a rain gauge set-up that worked like these that clicked off every .01" with a pointer and a digital display for inches that showed 1.00" after the pointer got around to the top again and started over at .00". Those were even cooler. I can't find one online anywhere since the mid 90's. I don't remember who made those. I do know that Texas Electronics manufactured one in the 1970's for their commercial stations.

Fascinating, especially the dedicated wind speed and direction instruments.

I have bought or looked at several inexpensive analog indoor instrument groupings by mail in the last two years, but none of the barometers have worked before or after adjustment. I am hoping to find a working one for my tiny apartment.

FYI: The beginning of the video is very annoying. At least as seen on YouTube, even with the glare, as long as the camera is in focus, the instrument is clearly readable. There was no need for you to turn off the lighting, which *did* make the image darker and less readable, spoil the focus, interrupt your narration, and generally frustrate this viewer.

Weather instruments that are built to last. The simpler and engineered, the longer they last. Cape Cod is one of the oldest weather instrument companies. And, being analog, these instruments do something no new digital instrument does today: instantaneous readouts. Most of the commercial made units in China take anywhere from 18 seconds to a minute to read out. That's a lot of data missed! We have several Cape Cod units that are approaching 40 years old on the Oregon Coast. Highly recommended. :)
