Great review, many fair critiques! ARK is certainly an acquired taste. But if you can acquire it, it's one of the most rewarding games you'll ever play. I've put in over 1, 000 hours on a 2-player server with my wife, and with a low player count like that, it's a blast. The story is actually one of ARK's strong points; at first you don't even realize it's there, but as you discover more and more, it becomes your focus. The conclusion of The Island was one of the most exhilarating endgame experiences I've ever had, in a game with no dialogue whatsoever! The game's other strong point is dino taming. The further on into the game you go, the more creative and challenging taming different creatures becomes. Successfully snatching my first wyvern egg on Scorched Earth was one of the most challenging experiences I've ever faced in a video game, but raising and riding that wyvern was, in turn, one of the most fulfilling rewards! On a private server, if you get bored of the grind you can increase the rates, you can change or remove almost any aspect of the game you don't enjoy.

i think the main problem with the progression in multiplayer is how impossible it is to build up from nothing as basically every server is dominated by a bigger tribe already. no matter how good you are at pvp they will have the best base spots that are practically unraidable from a freshspawn standpoint. they have enough resources to wipe your metal box that you spent hours grinding for 1000x times over and thats just the alphas of the server. the mega alliances that span over many servers are even worse because of how far advanced their tames and bases are. its almost impossible to put into words how much of a disadvantage a tribe starting from fresh has compared to a mega alliance that hasnt been wiped out since 2017 (official release of the game). but if you happen to be in said mega alliance or alpha tribe then the game can be a lot more fun because you already have the resources and players to do large scale pvp. ark is probably the game i have the most hours in. i have been in 1 mega alliance for about 3 months and it was some of the most fun and some of the least fun ive ever had in gaming. the scale of the battles are impossible to imagine. the amount of time you have to dedicate to get the best possible items pretty much require you to have no job, school or social life. in conclusion, if youre considering buying the game and have never played it before then i wouldnt recommend it unless you only want to play the single player, but if you have no life and can dedicate as much time to ark as you see fit and are already in a mega alliance or a big alpha tribe then id say it is still worth playing

As someone who's played Ark since it came out, I agree alot with what you're saying in here. It's a clunky game with alpha tribes ruling the official servers with iron fists, and tedious grinds that are frankly ridiculous and often walled off by alpha tribes, making official servers all but unplayable unless you cozy up to the alpha tribes. That being said, the custom and private servers are really where Ark excels. Most servers I've played on have the gathering rates, tame rates, and level caps all increased to make the game overall faster and more enjoyable. Still doesn't change the fact the game is clunky, and a downright grind in most cases, but with some good friends and a beefy PC it can be somewhat enjoyable.

I still like Ark. Not with big groups! It's pvp is crap in my opinion. But alone or with some friends it is still a lot of fun

Wow this did not do ARK justice. You missed out on almost half of the stuff this game has to offer. I can tell your not into these types of games and thats ok but don’t just go around telling all the bad sides about it with absolutely no good sides about it. This game is great and can definitely be played in multiple different styles of game play not to mention with unofficial servers and mods

I feel that a few key elements were left out here. I agree with what was said, but it's worth mentioning that you can adjust speed and multipliers in the options to tailor the gameplay for your experience and the modding community can change the entire feeling off the game.

The biggest thing in PvE is what is your dino collection

Your reasoning is totally justified. I've always played ARK solo and have never "completed" any of the games (I only bought the base game and Scorched Earth), like never got to any of the bosses yet, but I do have fun playing it! I tend to play it in binged spurts though, like I'll randomly decide to play it again for maybe a week or two then drop it for another 6 months or something. It's one of the few games I keep finding myself going back to. I do use the world sliders for more xp, tame time decrease, etc. though, since the game IS hella grindy and not worth the full time investment, and I do sparingly use commands at times. But I mostly play "genuinely", because despite all the bugs, frustrating mechanics, and "meh" graphics, I still find the gameplay mostly fun. I still find it thrilling hunting and taming creatures, especially trying to evade or take down dangerous enemies. The game does tend to be unforgiving in various ways, but it's gotta be one of my favorites that's stood the test of time. It's nice having free maps and seasonal content, too, though the game size is indeed ridiculous. I recommend anyone interested in survival--especially dino/animal lovers--to give it a try.

If you are apart of a good tribe, this is my favorite game of all time. Literally never got bored of it after thousands of hours on official PVP. If you are playing alone or don't have a tribe the game is almost impossible to play/enjoy.

also people should know you have conplete control over settings and can take away basically all survival aspects if thats not your jam

I like how you are the only person who doesn't disagree in a crude manner... The first person in THE WORLD who has a respective opinion! Good job. You earned a loyal follower because you don't like it, but you are not mean about your dislike

surprised me, i get what you mean how it can get boring because there is no main objective or goal for the player to strive for at the beginning, but in most survival games you need to set your own goals. So when it came to ark i usually set the goal of taming a T-rex (or i'm feeling daring a giant T-rex) or most of the dinos. Sometimes i like to build so i try to create a goal of planning out how big i want the house and which rooms will have what stuff to make it seem practical. Then build a green house, a small dino pen, etc. Maybe a small town with a large fence around. In most games with a leveling system that's usually the start is get to max level. So in the end Ark is still a great game and if people here haven't tried it, definitely pick it up on sale and try out the core, i sadly bought some of the DLC but i haven' tried it because i have so much fun on the first map and don't want to leave what i had built. Was great to see your video

For anyone looking to purchase the game, I recommend watching different reviews to get different inputs. NyxsonTV disclaims at the beginning of the video that these are his personal opinions and the review clearly reflects his biases. He doesn’t seem to have a deep understanding of Ark and openly airs out his grievances based on his poor knowledge. I wouldn’t necessarily consider this video a bad review, but I would consider it an incomplete review from an extremely limited stand point. NyxsonTV leaves out a lot of the fun and unique things Ark has to offer and for this reason it should be taken with a grain of salt.

I gave myself goals within the game which was to build settlements across the map and make checkpoints as a way to mark specific areas.

I have had this game for years and switched to pc recently, it takes 300gb and I eventually quit but I always come back and play for a while then quit again. Personally I enjoy the pvp aspect with loads of players but Ark on PC doesnt have the same player pop as before and it kills it for me. If you like to play singleplayer, have the money and space for it then I do recommend since the mods especially make the game elite, even if you are playing alone.

Thanks for the review. It appeared free on PS+ but I don't like grinding amd clunky games that much, I already have Monster Hunter World Iceborne and WarFrame to play, I don't want another repetitive long time consuming game, at the moment.
