One of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's first promises after his election in 2018 was to build the Mayan train, a long railway that would criss-cross 1,554 kilometres of tropical forests in the eastern Yucatan peninsula. The goal is to connect major tourism centres. While the idea appears good on paper, it has engineers on edge and environmentalists crying foul. Meanwhile, its initial cost has already tripled. I am overjoyed at this project. yeah, I know the complaints by the environmentalists. They want to scare people thinking it is unsafe. But Mexico's economy is another issue. I will be the first person to book a ride on this train. I truly love the Mayan heritage. People from all over the world will come here like they do in the screwed-up Egyptian ruins. Money is ancillary to the love of Mayan culture.

This report is completely biased. Why not interviewing the other side of the argument? Mexico will be the first country in Latin America to have this type of infrastructure, it will create thousands of jobs, it will bring in a stream of revenue and so forth. France24 is starting to become one sided.
