Comping with Melodyne (ARA)

Vocal comping is a crucial step in modern music production. It involves combining the best segments from multiple vocal takes to obtain a final track that comes as close to perfection as possible. This is done by comparing the takes and switching to whichever take offers the best performance of each segment (which could be as short as a single syllable). Obviously, comping means taking important musical decisions.

With ARA-compatible DAWs (e.g. Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Cakewalk...) and Melodyne installed, comping is a task that is far more easily accomplished. You can apply Melodyne to all the takes before finalizing your comping decisions. You have all of Melodyne's possibilities at your disposal to edit the segments, selecting at each point in the song the option that is truly the best. Furthermore, not only can you apply Melodyne to the individual segments of each take, but also look beyond the boundaries of any given segment at the entire contents of the take to which it belongs. Discrepancies or overlapping at the crossover points between takes are therefore very easy to eliminate. This video shows how it all works.

Users of an ARA-compatible DAW who don’t have Melodyne yet can try out ARA integration with the Melodyne trial version:

I know you guys have heard a lot of requests so far. But the one I want the most that none other can deliver like Melodyne (if ya'll agree)...
Get ready:....
Allowing Melodyne to receive MIDI input to transpose the audio blobs to the played notes, in real time.
Chords would duplicate the blobs to the notes specified (a seventh chord would have 4 blobs).
Also, for arps and lazy chords, triggering within a blob, the transposing would be of partial blobs (from that point on).
The representation of new blobs can have a different color or even a different appearance all together.
Allowing Melodyne to transpose to incoming MIDI would be like (and better) that have such a feature (like AutoTune, and others).
Also, this allows Melodyne to also be an new-age sampler as well. Load the sample in (e.g. by ARA), and then transpose the sounds to whatever MIDI melody is desired.
Or you can just have it to retrigger and transpose a specific blob.

Comping is essentially editing vocals by taking the sections of all takes that sound best and mixing them into one track. Melodyne makes this precisely achievable by magnifying the signals allowing you to see each vocal action, note by note.

I've tried every scenario and just can't get melodyne to work like this in Sonar Platinum. Please, any tips would be much appreciated.

When will you guys bring back MIDI input?
Please bring back the ability to snap notes to incoming MIDI, like Auto-Tune and zplane retune does.

Comping is just taking the best part of each take from your vocal arrangements or from a section of your song, and combining them together to make your main vocal for the record and make it sound flawless.

Does the plugin save with Logic Pro X? Last time I used it, it would not save, and when I would reload a project, none of my work was there! Talk about a pain in the butt...

Above and beyond the technical product demonstration, in terms of this video presentation can I just express how awesome the continuous song scoring underlying this video (and others!) is seemlessly following the project file. Every cut is done perfectly. I would love to see how you did this... is the voiceover in the song project and then some elements of it are also in the video edit where you need to show the a project being stopped or looping back for instance? ☺️
