To prove existence of a limit, you have to show it using the rigorous definition, i.e. epsilon-delta definition. Just by approaching along y, along x and along y=mx you cant tell the value is independent of any path we approach. Merely it doesnt claim that there does not exist any other path where limit might approach a different value
