Impressive. Those women are hella fit making quick work of that. A pair of 35lbs dumbbells had to be around half of their body weight or more in some cases. I believe the purpose of the kipping pullup is to develop power from the core which is what you have to generate in order to get over the bar quickly and repetitiously. Good stuff regardless. This is real work, which is not on display at my gym at all. Most guys think laying down on a bench and pressing stuff over you is working out.

In essence, crossfit is "crossing" over multiple fitness realms for an overall top-notch fitness experience. Most exercises are whole-body like the thruster, deadlift, power clean, kip ups, etc. Crossfit doesn't really care about the numbers behind it but rather has a "just do it" type of attitude. The WOD are workout-of-the-day, and the reason they change it daily is to challenge your body without giving it time for adaptation, thus challenging it harder.

Working out with momentum caused me to pull forearm muscles and lower back muscles.
Isnt it better to have slower controlled full range reps better than swinging weights around? Thats a recipe for torn muscles and damaged joints.

definitely a mode that gives results but there are exercises that are definitely not suitable for health and the medium term can cause injury

While I agree with you that kipping pull-ups are their own exercise, I would be careful in how you try to lament their uniqueness to others. Kipping pull-ups do not utilize a "different set of muscles, " from strict pull-ups or chin-ups. All of these exercises work the lat, teres major and biceps/brachialis - in addition to the smaller movers. Kipping does require more coordination and therefore additional work from the hip flexors and stabilizers, but these are not prime movers in the exercise.

Crossfit is more combined with natural movements or more complex movements.. It's not focust on one muscle like standard fitness people try( no offence)..

and you're right, they're called kippin' pull ups

Call them what they are - KIP UPS, NOT pullups. Try that in the military and you'll soon have an angry face screaming into YOUR face. The purpose of exercise is to EXERCISE muscles. Using momentum takes the focus away from the muscles you're trying to exercise (arms/lats) and puts the focus in your leg kicking ability.

The dumbbell move at the start....how does that not cause knee problems later? It just seems like extremely poor form for how the body works.
