Frogan calling the oct 7th attacks “the revolution” is so darkly hilarious

Hyperbole has ruined the internet. People are too ready to take one tiny insignificant thing you say, out of all the good things you do, and use it to overreact and accuse you of moving going all the way over to Literallyville, Hitlervania

People will self-immolate over something happening on the other side of the planet that they don't even understand but won't lift a finger to engage in local action to make the communities they live in better or help those around them.

the therapist's comment is pretty sensible, it would be like a Ukrainian refugee seeing a Russian therapist, they might be a great person but they are still citizens of the country currently bombing their relatives

My problem is that a lot of the people screaming about a genocide happening in Gaza are sometimes (but not always) the same people saying there is not a active genocide happening in Ukraine or Xinjiang with the Uyghurs. That's my frustration

The therapist didn't bring it up unprompted.

The older "version" shows they themselves brought up the story of the dad fleeing from Israeli attacks in the therapy setting (which is perfectly fine!), that's hell of a prompt to be like: Btw, I'm Israeli, if that's gonna be part of what we talk about, are you comfortable with that?

Sounds caring and responsible to me. Maybe she went full internet-debate mode on the therapist after that, in which case the therapist might've grilled her in response/the discussion.

Could totally believe that. If you go full Ben Shapiro after some inocuous, maybe even well-meaning comment, on some normal person, how do you expect them to react?

I always felt disturbed by the bizarre praise - in want of a better word - Aaron got online and how anyone who highlighted that this wasn’t a good thing was treated as if they were supporting Israel baffled me. It seemed as if saying “setting yourself on fire is bad and an extreme act that won’t really do anything for the cause, which it didn’t” was an act of betrayal. I was confused about how saying “you still have to have some form of psychological issues in order to bring yourself to end your life like that” was a bad thing.

Ethan saying all settlers are military targets is quite crazy, they are civilian?? I don't think he's thought about it a lot. Probably just said it during a stream.

Coming from a psychologist, it is totally appropriate to ask your client if they're comfortable with you providing the service if you think it would interfere with the therapeutic relationship. How it's phrased/ explained to the client is the dicey part, depending how it's done. Obviously, asking clients about their political/ religious opinions randomly when it hasn't been identified as a therapy target (by both the clinician and client) is not appropriate, but I'm skeptical of Frogan's reporting...)

I have a theory why specifically h3 get's shit for this, he was a beginning of the tankie pipeline for a lot of people and generally those ppl still watch him for entertainment. Someone would watch h3, like Hasan because of leftovers, go deeper with all of the crazy talkies Hasan platforms and supports and then go analyze Ethan relative to second thoughts or whatever.

I just sort of automatically assumed frogan was lying without needing the original 2019 tweet because 1) it sounds like a bad tumblr fake story and 2) it’s frogan and she seems like the sort of shitty person who would lie for attention on the internet. 🤷‍♀️

Burning yourself alive is crazy. While I admire his commitment to the freedom and liberation of Palestinians brother find another way. you’re gonna die, pass away and we’re all gonna forget in a couple of months for what. You could’ve gotten the same message across without burning yourself.

Reminds me of the Dalai lama talking about self immolation in occupied Tibet. He talks about it in his interview with John Oliver. How he has to balance comforting their families while also not encouraging that action, viewing those people as martyrs, etc. I feel great sympathy for Aaron & why he wanted to do what he did, and I l also truly hope no other people will harm themselves in that way.

I feel we are dangerously close to actual tankie violence. We are lucky that Aaron didnt want to take anyone with him.

When Bushnell said, "There is no Israel without the genocide of Palestinians." I am reminded at how common this opinion has become. To be clear, I am Jew, I believe in peace. I believe in freedom for all, wherever they may want to live. BUT, let's all be very clear, there would NOT be a Palestine in all of history if it were not for the MULTIPLE genocides and ethnic cleansings of my people. Palestine is a Greco-Roman name for the land, which is the equivalence of Germany/Deutschland. There would not be a Palestine without the Tiberius Julius Alexander Genocide, and the Bar Kohva Genocide. There would not be a Palestine if it were not for the the many Byzantine Genocide, there would not be a Palestine if it were not for Arab Conquest of the Caliphates, and there would not be a Palestine without the MANY genocides of MY people by the Ottomans and other Arabized colonialists. I am not saying Palestinians are not as indigenous as Jews, so much time has passed who knows, most geneticists seem to think they are Jews who have converted over years and years of colonization. That doesn't make them more or less deserving of peace and freedom. What is very very important for people to understand is that there would be no Palestine without the extensive and many genocides of Jews over 2, 000 years. Not the other way around.

IMO there are a lot of bad takes on both sides of this issue. It's possible, but I am not sure this act of protest will actually translate into better outcomes. It's sad to see that someone was driven to such action and that is something I think it is ok to gesture at, but I do not have any further thoughts on it. However, I think death as a form of protest is a nuanced topic. I could see myself supporting such acts if they brought attention to a lesser-known tragedy for example, but even then perhaps an act of extreme vandalism could have the same reach. If we are always against such acts, I feel one would have to condemn the man who stood in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square, not that this is entirely comparable to the act of Aaron. An act like that could reasonably result in death.
