KARMA Gallery, while not new, is new to many art lovers and the blue-chip art gallery scene. What makes KARMA superlative is their celebration of, "painter's painters." From Gertrude Abercrombie to Luigi Zuccheri, and with this exhibition here by Manoucher Yektai, KARMA's focus is on the "evolution" of paint as a force. From Duchamp to Koons, too much of the art world is based on jaded nihilism. It's a respite to see KARMA countering this century long trend. While some critics might pan KARMA's program as derivative, here's hoping KARMA holds the line. Art doesn't have to be new. Art has to be great. Like Chardin and Morandi before them, many of KARMA's artists will stand the test of time.
