Just did this with my older 500GB NVR and used a 2tb Seagate FireCuda drive. only 2 issues I had was SDA3 would fail to copy drive to drive so I had to use FCSK VS the default and then after the update you mention on your blog post to do the OS updates and clean etc. I was still having the 400 error, delete all old recordings and then rebooted the NVR and it went away and everything works great. Thanks for the great directions.

Great tutorial, I think this will help a lot of people who have the older NVR... I suppose you could go even bigger than 2TB if you wanted to as well.

The good old hair slide, such a useful tool. I use super duper  for cloning, never used this one. I think that should last you quite some time. I'm sure you can find a good use for that WD Blue you took out, they make nice little backup drives in a case.

I am looking to do this with a 5TB drive that is 15mm tall or thick and the one that comes with the NVR is 7mm. Do you think this will fit a 15mm drive?

Great video... Just what I was looking for a disassembly guide. I'm going to go a slightly different route and just install Ubuntu Server 16.04 then install the UniFi Video software. The old hard drive died and there is no way to get an image of the default install from ubiquiti. Just ordered a 3TB drive for it.

I am just started to look at a lot of review unifi NVR on YouTube, but if I have to go through all those command lines and the downloading of software just to upgrade from 500GB to a 1TB that system not for me. I own a Zmodo NVR for a year now and presently upgrade the hard-drive from the 1TB to a 4TB without all those command line. I thought that was plug and play.

is there also a possibility to replace a broken HDD and install because I don't have a cloune?

Very good! but could it works also for a 4TB HDD?

Hi, If you don't need to retain the video for long, and only running 4 cameras, is it worth the upgrade? (Just about to buy an NVR).
