Tom Cruise 2005 War of the Worlds movies are the best Tripods I've seen.

It's much more realistic and have weight when it walks and moves. Sound design is fantastic and the design alone is fantastic. Every scene they were in was epic.

The 1953 war machines were the first depiction of repulsor craft in cinema. Given the three repulsor emitters they do count as tripods.

The Fox TV adaptation shouldn't even be considered, in my irrelevant opinion, honestly has nothing to do with the source material other than sharing its name, but I guess *war of the worlds* sounds better than Boston Dynamics Dog-bot invasion.

Jeff Wayne's tripods were my favourite as a kid but the 2005 film made me realise that the tripod design needed to be much more agile to quickly negotiate a variety of terrain.

The tripods in The Great Martian War and True Story have the best overall design in my opinion. Still very alien but not too space age whilst retaining that built-for-purpose, mechanical feel.

However, I don't think any of these films accurately display the sorts of damage the heat ray in the H G Wells' book would really inflict upon Humans and their technology. That would be perhaps too horrifying if done accurately. Jeff wayne comes closest but that's only shown in the illustrations.

It's about time for another big budget War Of The Worlds movie with good writing.

I actually kinda like the ones that have the 2 legs in the back and a smaller leg in the front. Definitely a unique design you don’t usually see

The only ones that were even able to COMPETE with ‘05 were the Great Martian War and the 2019 short series

I read and reread the book several times over the past decades, it's a favorite of mine. The Spielberg tripods match the image in my head that I got from reading the book the best, except his tripods were much taller than the book version. I don't care for the versions that look like beetles that much.

There is something about that sound….. like “you’re The great Martian war docudrama was pretty awesome!

my fav version of the tripods isn't even from a movie/tv show (although I LOVE the 2005 Steven Spielberg ones) mine is actually from the illustrated comic book version from the early 2000s. I draw them ALL time and love that design so much.

I'm fondest of the 1953 version, it still packs a punch, considering how long ago it was made. Like others here I'm a fan of the novel and would love to see a definitive adaptation (that doesn't have moustaches made of cardboard).

Wow! I wonder what H G Wells would make of all this, I'm sure he would be thrilled his story is still as great as when it first came out. I personally like the Jeff Wayne Ooooo Laaaass!

It's a bloody shame "The Great Martian War" isn't available on DVD in general, as it seems, it's the best WotW, from my point of view.
The Spielberg movie is an easy 2nd place.
Here in Germany some movies were never released, like "A True Story", and that Asylum shite ironicly was marketed as WotW 2 + 3, because of Spielberg's movie, they just hoped we would make a connection & consume product. 😅
About that tv-show with the robo-doggies, take the title away, maybe change the planet of the invaders, and it's a completely different thing. That show isn't available here as well, I only know about S1 being translated, everything else doesn't seem to be available here. Is there a DVD of that anywhere?
Personaly I'm diving into the WotW comics, graphic novels, illustrated books right now, though it will take some time to get everything or most of it.
I think THIS would be a good video as well, also about audioplays + radio broadcasts, I have several of these as well, though most of it is a German production, not sure this is a thing outside of Germany.
The audioplays, of course...

This is awesome! Could you do a compilation for the illustrations, such as Henrique Alvim Correa’s art?

The final was like: first time we'll make a tripod like a png picture of tripod made of constructor toy moving on green screen with skyes, but in the next scene we'll use full modeled tripod with high-detailed attack and burnt human body animation))

The Great Martian War still has my favorite tripod designs to date

The 1954 version will always be my favorite, but it doesn't immediately scream tripod. I think the 2005 version really makes the greatest impression.

I still like the 1953 "tripods" the best as they come across more sleek and advanced. They just look the coolest out of all adaptations and the idea behind them is more interesting and "futuristic" with the three force field type legs as opposed to actual walking, clunky tripods.
