A STORMY SECRET (Dawson's Creek, 1998)

Sorry Pets, I am not referring to the long remembered daytime soap opera THE SECRET STORM (CBS, 1954-74). This is referring to Gail's admission to her family that she had an affair with her co-worker. Her husband Mitch then leaves her. However, the scene where they are sitting in the SUV includes a nice little reference to soaps.

One of my biggest pet peeves about DC.

Gail is the one who cheats for months in secret. Then her excuse is "My life was too perfect" and she basically blames Mitch for being too good of a husband. LMAO

Yet moving forward, the show spins a narrative that we should feel sympathy for Gail and vilify Mitch. He was the victim and a fully loyal husband for 20 years. He had every right to hate Gail and be upset. 💯

The acting in this show is seriously brilliant. This scene especially gave me goosebumps.

Just started rewatching this. This episode is crazy. Now, as a married adult with kids, I cannot believe she asked Dawson to stay in the room. Disgusting move. Really bad parenting decision there. Yikes.

I remembered when this aired on the WB and I saw this episode for the first time. It was powerful. I was young then, but when Mitch gave his story about how he fell in love with her and how he could quickly take it back, that was a learning moment for me. be careful how you love, who you love, and not to take love for granted.

Ppl say his best line is don't you cry. But in the truck how he say I choose to not live you anymore sinks deep.

Thanks for this. I had been searching for a while now. A sad but relevant scene. I choose to hate you now.

this woman was beyond selfish.. so instead of confiding in your husband you decide to cheat.. am sorry was so not gonna cut it. I don't even think she truly regretted it

Out of the whole show this was the most memorable scene ever.

After giving her reason why she cheated, how the hell can she say she is sorry? "I was bored so I slept with someone else...sorry"

The exact moment that Mitch flipped the script on Gail.

Cheating is one of the most unloving, selfish, shortsighted thing a person can do to their loved one (loved ones if you have a family)

Poor Mitch, as someone who was also cheated on before knows exactly how he felt, you lose yourself in the anguish and betrayal you feel at that moment that u can't control your emotions, he actually handled it well cuz other men would've done alot worse than just yell, Mitch believe it or not held his composure alot better than most

I think it would be cool if these two actors Mary Margaret Humes and John Wesley Shipp were to executive produce a prequel movie to "Dawson's Creek" which takes place in the late 70s/early 80s Capeside, MA and shows how Gail and Mitch met, fell in love, got married for the first time, struggled to keep their love together while attempting to have a kid. We could also be introduced to Lillian Potter, Joey's mother as well as see the dynamic between Grams and Helen and how their back and forth fighting eventually led to Helen running off to New York to marry Theo Lindley. The chemistry that we see in this scene could be the basis for the dynamic between Gail and Mitch as young lovers.

I'm amazed Mitch took her back on that explanation in the end.

How did Mitch take her back after this, Mitch was a big reason why Dawson was as soft as he was. When a woman cheats on you and tells you, tell her thank you for being honest. Then you pack your things and exit quietly. You certainly don't go back and have another child with her.

Mitch was the character where when he got mad and you could see it, it's bad. Sad that he died :(

I love Mitch for this scene like I thought he was aloof but this made me realize he had everything he needed "the perfect life" and as she used that as her reason to cheat he used it as a shield for the bad things that come, a great character ngl
