Thank you - This is the best explanation I’ve seen of how a lightmeter works in such an easy to understand matter. I’ve seen many tutorials. Thank you - I am subscribing to you

Great for exposing subject for backlight-ambient & flash. Exposure for background high tone and use meter to adjust flash power to match f-stop to low tones

I also have the same light meter but have generally only used it to measure flash exposure. I never really understood the incidental light thing until now. Thanks for sharing.
cheers

Fantastic tip!

In addition to incident metering, also throw in flash metering and 1-degree spot metering and that is why I love them.

With flash metering, a flash-to-ambient percentage is a quick way to a desired look.

Just bought one after seeing Daniel Norton using one. Knew I needed a light meter if I using constant light but would love a full video showing this little guy off. It has a sink cable and I have no idea how it works. Please help guys. Your videos are always easy to follow and understand

Good tip! I have that light meter actually, and I look forward to using it more outside of my studio.

bg music too loud, tough to listen to a voice with music at a fairly similar volume. You have good points that I'll have to go watch other videos on.

can you adjust the meter to where it can recommend ISO and Shutter speed or does the meter only recommend Aperture

GREAT VIDEO, David! I am having a problem using external Sekonic light meters. I have used both the old ASA-oriented Sekonic and the modern digital Sekonic you used in your video. For some reason, both meters give me a reading that overexposes my images by two stops or more when I shoot with my Canon Rebel T4i cameras. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a work-around for measuring exposure with high speed flash (HSS) using an older meter that is not specifically designed for measuring HSS?

Can you guys do tips on aperture priority mode? Specifically for night photography? That would help a lot for someone like me just getting into it.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning to get more serious about lighting and studio shooting, but I'm still confused about a few things.
1) Does that mean I can ignore what the built-in light meter in the camera tells me (under- or overexposed) once I get the reading from the light meter?
2) If I use the light meter for spot metering, what metering mode (spot, average, multi) should my camera be using to take the picture? Or it doesn't matter?
3) Can a digital camera's metering "replace" a light meter: Is a digital camera's spot metering mode as good as the light meter's? Can a digital camera be used to measure incident lighting?

Not trying to be snarky....honest question. At 2:10 when the light meter is in front of your face, shouldn't the lumisphere be covering the sensor?

Does anyone know how the Sekonic L308S compares with Minolta’s IV F?
