Doesn't really address the question in the title. 'Owning' another individual's rights is conceiveble with both collectivism and individualism.

This is not really a good explanation of individualism, it's a bit vague and you don't really get to the core of the concept.

This entire video parallels collectivism to this hive mind of slaves. These definitions and viewpoints are incomplete and therefore flawed. I'm not saying that collectivist logic does not have flaws, or cannot be misused, I'm simply separating what is inherent within the paradigm from is not as, but within this video is put forth as the inherant.

The simplest and most broad definition for Collectivism is:

"The practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it." ~ Google

It does not necessitate that the individual is irrelevant or subservant to the group, it simply means that the collective of individuals is (usually) more important than any single individual within that collective.

So here is a scenario, you need to feed 5 people. One wants pizza, three don't want pizza, and one doesn't care. You *might* not have enough time to visit two places to eat. Do you get pizza first and assure 1 person's satisfaction? Or do you get something else first and assure 3?

Collectivism would be valuing the needs of those 3 individuals who don't want pizza first, and therefore getting their food first.

However think about what other values are frequently paired with group efforts *between individuals:* sharing, cooperation, communication. compromise, Without these the collectives and groups falls apart, due to conflicting ideas and needs.

*Realistically a collective must strive to satisfy everyone within a collective in order to maintain itself.*

So to go back to the pizza scenario, in order to make everyone happy, "you" would get everyone else's food first and then rush over to the pizza joint, or promise that the one individual gets their way next time, or most likelt, *they have a concession on what eateries can service everyone with both pizza and non pizza options.*

Oddly enough, hive minds occur when a collective disregards the individuals within that collective, and only regard a single individual or a single paradigm. Basically collectivism is at its worst when lead by overzealous individualism.
