What's the better Gaming CPU of the two? Does the Ryzen 3 1200 even have a chance against the new Coffee Lake i3-8100 4-Core?

Sadly no games are optimized for Ryzen, it makes sense for the overclocked Ryzen 3 to be faster in games, since it beats out the i3 in productivity as they have literary the same core/thread count and 95% the same IPC, and 4.0Ghz it's normal for the Ryzen 3 to win in productivity as it is 10% higher clocked than the i3, but it still falls short in older and current games, due to lack of optimization, while intel's architecture has been 95% the same since the first gen core "i" CPUs, they just added more execution units and a couple new instructions and changed the memory controller, but the scheduling remained the same.

the 1300X fits closer to the price of Intel’s i3-8100. The 1300X clocks at 3.5GHz and can be overclocked to way over 4GHz.

$143 for the i3 8100 on your own link, that lack of budget availability combined with severe lack of intel mobos, makes a low-cost intel 8000 series untenable, at this time.

Honestly, R3 1200 is not a good pairing with 1070, its a bottleneck i several games. Use and 1060 or RX 580 instead. I seriously doubt that anyone would by a budget CPU and pair it with a GPU that costs 4-5 times more. I wonder why the R5 1600 isnt present in the testing? It`s more of a rival to the i5 8400 than the R5 1400.

An AMD GPU + AMD CPU is better than AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU. Nvidia's scheduler has issues with Ryzen.

also would suggest doing the tests on games relevant to this year please.

Oh, come on!! The i3 8100 is clearly better than the Ryzen 3 1200 in everything including power consuption (temperature, well, the i3 comes with that shit cooler but doesn't affect performance, especially since it doesn't have turbo) and including Ryzen OC, yet "there's not clear winner" "theoretically is better but practically not"... and that last way of thinking could be valid if we take that 3DMark score that doesn't reflect in actual games, not with actual real world test, it's like you don't like what you saw and dismissed you own tests results. The only thing hurting the i3 8100 right now and for months, is the price of motherboards, that is important.

I'd say Ryzen for the option to upgrade with the same socket later on to Zen2 and something equivalent to R7 1700. But I think the i3 is a fantastic CPU.

Yes amd is very slightly worse for gaming...but after the intel pulled off their stunt with z170/z270 mobos not beeing able to run coffee lake...im not trusting them again for a while. Good reson to pick up an AMD chip.
