Since when has GDP per capita been a measure of how "rich" a country is?

Indeed Romania has about 17.000 like some said here, thus Bulgaria is poorer than Romania, and I've been there I saw many villages on the road and they looked by far poorer than the romanian ones, but I don't have anything against them ... Romania is NOT by far the poorest, or the 2nd poorest in Europe , like many europeans think when they see the gypsies... And it has a lot of potential for tourism and infrastructure development it is a country on the up with a lot of beautiful landscapes and beautiful medieval towns in Transylvania, unfortunately this process towards development is going pretty slow because of many draw-backs, especially because our lack of brain and thief politicians and incompetent authorities and lack of good european-funding administration!

This is right, but if Transylvania wasn't part of it - which, really, should be an independent state of its own - then this wouldn't be possible.

GDP does not reflect the wealth of a country or an individual. For instance, a farmer in Kosovo may be much wealthier than a person living on social welfare and renting a house in Madrid, although he earns less money.

Serbia, excluding Kosovo, has a $13 000 GDP per capita. Which puts it on number 9
