Slinging - Stone vs. Shield

Показать описание
In this video I'm slinging stones up in the air, and getting underneath them with a shield. The shield was not made to be authentic as a medieval shield. The intention of this test is to feel the impact of the stones.

Here are the specs for the shield:
Base wood - 3/4 inch plywood
Weight - 14.2 lb (6.4 kg)
Diameter - 27 inches (69 cm)

That is NOT what I expected! I figured youd be throwing at the shield leaning on a log or something but you went and assaulted your self with light artillery! Massive props to you for being such a mad man!

That's a helluva nice shield to be blasting with stones. ~100J on that last throw.

A stone simply falling down has a quite different impact than the same stone straight thrown with the sling like in ancient battles.

Firstly, how were you calculating the speed? Secondly, please do a video showing the results of throwing directly at the shield to see the results. 👍

Shield areal density = 17.1 kg/sq m, roughly equivalent to 2.2 mm of steel.

I suggest a riot helmet with face shield would be better protection than the motorbike helmet, while still allowing good visibility.
Not sure how much better, as NU Standard-0104.02 only tests at 8 Joules for impact against the face shield.

Oh man that's crazy ;-)
Why not hanging the shield on a post or so? And the helmet would not help if you look up and get it on the face. By the way the shield is much to beautiful to destroy it. Glad you passed without injury .
