MENTAWAIS OFF-SEASON - an intermediate surfer's playground?

The Mentawais have been on my bucket list for years however I'd just never gotten around to getting there. So when a friend of mine opened up a resort there and invited me to come, I had to say yes.

I've had plenty of students go to The Ments during 'the season' and be overwhelmed, so I really wanted to answer the question: could off-season Mentawais be a great option instead?

I did the ments in Jan and am a pretty crappy intermediate and had the time of my life. The ments has always had that "pro" only kind of vibe and with fair reason too.... The off-season however if you are building your confidence and can navigate some shallower reef is a great place to go for perfect waves and minimal crowds. My partner is a semi-beginner and quiet nervous and she was able to surf a log on alot of days too. The lads at the resort you stay will be able to find a break suitable for everyone.

Even still, watching you shred that right to bits was the best part of the video. That wave reminded me of Lowers, only with warmer water and way fewer people.
