We appreciate the response, but no, we can't do that. We've tried it, and every time the machine needs to clean itself you have to change the cartridges with a new one, then put the old one back in. Often times we'll have multiple cartridges that are low (by low I mean below 120mL of ink. So say I have three or four cartridges that are low, and the machine stops to clean itself in the middle of a 40x60 print. Now I'm standing in front of the machine for a half our swapping out the cartridges, and at the end of it all I get a misprint because a small air bubble was introduced in the line swapping multiple cartridges just for cleaning.

Really it doesn't work for us. Maybe if I did a very small print volume, but we have two 9900s that stay pretty busy, and that kind of a work flow is unpractical, especially when I'm paying employees to swap cartridges and explain misprints to clients rather than run a print job.

Sometimes still we'll cherry pick a cartridge that's on 1% and put it back after a cleaning, but it's just seriously not happening.
