Charles can no longer exist on Earth. It was implied during the last episode that he requires Shi'ar tech to survive. So, he is dead as far as his body, but his mind can probably reach them if boosted. The things left for Erik are his earthly possessions. Charles is also manipulating Erik. He knows that as long as Erik is with the X-Men he will do more good than harm. I am sure this is not permanent, and they will find a loophole to bring Xavier back. Remember in Wolverine, Charles reappeared to Logan alongside Magneto after Phoenix literally shredded his body to pieces. So, if he can come back from that then he can come back from anything.

This was all explained in the comics. Xavier made Erik promise him to lead the X-men. There's nothing to speculate. However, if the series is going to go with the premise presented here they're going to end up writing themselves into a corner.

The entire will is fabricated by Magneto a false pretense but later, doing so well Cyclops says eh what the hell join us . Magneto needs the X Men to make sure Sinister and Apokalypse never rise to power again, because Magneto joined them briefly and know state secrets. The professor might be probing the X men minds to see how they are doing without him.
The Professor might make a short alliance with The Shadow King to stop Apokalypse in the Astral Plane because Apokalypse never enlisted The Shadow king when he tried to master time.
