Aliens be like:

"Pssh, These humans are pathetic. They're not even at type one. I swear, at this rate, the dolphins will catch up to them in no time."

A type 1 civilization doesn't need to USE the total power of it's planet, it just needs to be ABLE to do so. The same applies to every other level.

Simple: we are humans, we like killing each other far more that developing spacey stuff

If everyone puts their mind towards it, we could.

You forgot fusion energy. In less then 20 years it will be available. The oceans have fuel for 150.000 years.

I think one of the reasons when haven’t discovered aliens is because when you think of it we are pretty early in the history of the universe.

If it wasn't for the anti-nuclear hysteria, we probably would have transitioned to a clean and efficient energy industry by now.

I can picture that in the future we will have "Why humans might never become a type II Civilization"

When I heard about "there's an estimate 14, 000 nuclear weapons on earth" I almost freak out
I don't think we could make it but there's may be 20% chance, so there's hope

We will destroy ourselves long before we progress to this point, religion alone demands we segregate against those who dont hold similar beliefs, this hypothetical future could only start to happen when mankind as a whole learns to come together

Things humans need to do: one, develop a universal language. Two, stop fighting eachother and develop world peace. Three, switch to clean and renewable energy. Four, end problems such as world hunger and poverty. Five, stop industrial type school.

Hating humans, or ourselves as a species has become sort of like an online trend, and obviously its an idea long before computers. It's popular to hate humanity because we're basically still throwing shit at each other, in more ways than one nowadays.

Though I think many people don't understand, when they imagine an advance civilization finding us, people like to compare the huge difference, and that we are more inhumane than Human, that we won't make it.

All forms of evolution has its more primitive state in comparison to what we could be like in two thousand years, we don't even have another civilization to compare ourselves to. We could actually be going a hell of a lot faster than the common civilization, and I would imagine most civilizations had gone through their stupid phase in whatever form it took for them.

Saying we're a civilization that is unworthy for the future, is completely voiding a whole chunk of the process it takes to become 'advanced'. Any aliens out there thinking we're unworthy, are simply hypocrites as a species that probably had and still does, have conflicts. Unless they're like a hive mind form of species, doing the dirty with one of them, you do the dirty with *all of them*

As for the filter itself, I think there's no passing it. It's a constant threat, and it will threaten us as we advance and continue advancing. There's no finish line in the universe, everything threatens our existence. It's our job to learn how to live with it. The great filter is like an anxiety on a civilization. Every nuke that exists on this planet is a great filter. Every unseen celestial object is a great filter.

Bottom line of it all for me, I'm happy to see the upcoming missions into space. Musk wants a self sustaining Martian settlement on Mars by 2050, NASA claims they're going back to the moon to stay, if you've seen their cinematic styled trailer for that. If all goes well with the panned missions in this decade alone, the 2020's, the chances we become extinct drop dramatically.

Back to the alien side of things, discovering proof of life on another planet other than Earth is the foundation of something new in our society. We all know there is, but we need to have material proof first. Anyone can say in this day and age in 2020, that there's not much hope for Humanity. We're all in a shit state, but it's apart of the long term progression. It's unnoticeable, but you can notice it if you look at how much has change with the passing of only 100 years.

20 Years ago I was still using Windows 95, now my laptop is as thin as a magazine. It hasn't even been 80 years since the very first modern computer. What will this all look like when we've reached the 100 year milestone? We're getting Neuralink very soon whether there's people who disagree or not. If that is a success and it become popular among society, it will have increased our own brain functions which will allow us to be more effective in our own respective fields.

But in the end we really have no other species to compare ourselves to unless we do that with the mammals that ruled the Earth before us, and it didn't work out too well for the Dinosaurs. Let's just start by getting ourselves on other planets or moons, maybe build a space station or two afterwards for public transit to the surfaces.

I don't think we have to worry about Aliens taking the planets Dolphins, apes or pigs as their 'chosen race'…at least anytime soon Lol Humanity will be the race that leaves Earth for other places in our solar system and one day to other Earth like planets. Unless we somehow fuck it up as a multi planetary species.

Self annihilation seems most likely. I can’t imagine that we’re able to get past our selfish ways long enough to actually work together. Can you see all of us ever being on the same page? Not in my lifetime at least.. I think we’ll have to completely run out of fossil fuels, lose everything which will cause a massive culture shift as we’re brought back to the Stone Age. We should be preparing for when we inevitably run out, right? Yet we’d rather spend decades fighting over who can make the most profit from it. If No one profits, it’s never going to happen. The people who run this planet would rather die with billions than make sure their great grand kids will be able to live beyond 30.

First let's hope that Humans become Humans, and then just move on to Type 1, 2, 3, 4 or any other Type of Civilization.

I think one of the great filters that we as a civilization are currently going through is having countries armed with nuclear weapons, we were lucky/ smart enough not to blow ourselves to bits in the cold war but we still are armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons that can destroy our whole planet multiple times over, another great filter that I can think of that we as a civilization will be going through is global warming, lol I commented this at the beginning of the video and then the second great filter was self annihilation.

Surely humans can't use all the energy from the Earth unless you mean Earth without nature.

Some call it the great filter, others call it the Reapers.
