Excellent presentation of the Yamaha RX-V671..I bought mine at Frys Electronics last year {2012} for $360.00 new in box..Replaced my Sony 5.1 receiver with this unit.Like you said it has many HDMI inputs and other inputs..Audio inputs include digital optical and coaxial.I don't have cable or Dish so I primarily use it for DVDs and blue-ray movies.I have a digital tuner Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder connected to it..I record regular TV shows..I also have my Sony play station 3. Running Polk speakers

Duglessm: I forgot to mention, one of the primary reasons I bought this set is because I am only hooking up a 5.1 channel system but my front speakers are biampable. This receiver allows you to route the two unused amp channels to your front speakers. You mentioned during your video you have a 5 channel set up, so this might be an option for you. I'm sure you know this but here's a quick tutorial on biamping for your channel subscribers:

Thanks, nice overview! Just 2 things, FYI. Receiver can't improve the HDMI signal from the box, but the reason to have it go through the box would of course be to get the audio! As far as video/audio passthrough, the fact that there's sound with TV off isn't it, but that you could turn your TV volume up with the receiver off and watch TV at night.

go into the "information" menu on your on screen setup, then look for "system". the last line on that page should say firmware version and the latest version is 1.18, if u have that then u have the latest firmware and make sure u check out my other rx671 videos.

set it up like normal thru the amp, as long as ur tv speakers are not turned off when u turn on ur tv if the last thing that was playing threw the amp was your set top box then all you will need to do is turn on your tv. also with this amp u can set a standard volume evertime u turn on ur amp to avoid surprises when u turn on ur amp late night as well

I'm not sure you understand hdmi 1.3 and 1.4. I am sure your explanation of hdmi standby pass-through isn't right. What you showed for audio isn't pass-through at all. It's just your audio playing through your receiver with your TV off.  What you showed for video is only half of the hdmi pass-through (the video part), but your menu settings (Setup) are wrong for letting the audio pass through with the video. That's why you weren't getting sound on your TV. The default setup for most Yamaha receivers is to have this set to off, but you can turn it on. HDMI pass-through operates in Standby mode (basically, when your receiver is turned off) and would, for example, let you watch AND listen to your Direct TV box on the TV with your receiver turned off. Your receiver has this feature, but it's not what you showed.Aside from that, I think you have an informative and enthusiastic review that I enjoyed.

I just unboxed mine but haven't set it up yet. I connected directly to my wireless router and am trying to update my firmware. Does it do that automatically once connected, or did you need the TV screen to walk you through that? Good video, thanks for posting.

what do you think about a yamaha Rx-v373 for some cerwin vega speakers? all i want is 2 tower speakers and a subwoofer..would that be enough power to push them speakers?

YES!!!but i bought mine used on ebay in 05 for like $600(just sub and speakers) i think i have an accoustimass 10. umm the good and bad thing depending on your setup is, the power to the speakers is coming from the bose powered sub. it's only using like 30 watts of power from receiver and you also have to use bose provided speaker wire from the speakers to the sub, then to your receiver(which in theory is an extra step) the sound quality is SUPERB and u CAN'T blow the speakers :)

Since it's tower speakers i would say that will be fine being that the 373 is 85watts per channel(5.1) should sound awesome!!!!
