Career advice I wish I knew in my 20s - for anyone feeling stuck or lost

Let's make career advice like it's 2024, career advice that actually works!

I have always struggled to find happiness and meaning in my work. Just progressing and levelling up did not feel sufficient. I also found it hard to balance accomplishment with having a good mental health and taking care of myself well enough not to burn out.

This feels even harder when faced with pressure of lay offs, peer pressure & parental pressure to get to life's 'milestones' as fast as we can.

I don't have everything figured out yet, but these things definitely helped and I wish I knew them at 20.

Books used in this video:
Book recommended by my former manager on running your own business -

00:00 intro
0:30 things I wish I knew in at 20s that I know now
1:20 how to find fulfilling career?
2:23 peer pressure & parental pressure
2:59 how to progress
3:54 finding a job
5:30 how to get unstuck
6:57 how to find happiness
8:10 key to it all

I CREATE BECAUSE...
I want to embrace vulnerability and authentically share my very imperfect journey towards a happier, healthier life, trying to let go of worrying, overthinking, perfectionism and people pleasing. I am far from having it all figured out but I hope that as I learn, grow and improve I can share something that can also inspire you on your own path. Subscribe to follow along!

Also if there is a video you'd like me to make for you, let me know - I probably will if the topic fits the channel themes :)

☕ HOW TO SUPPORT MY WORK? ☕

This video touches upon handling peer pressure and parental pressure as an adult - have you experienced this? is it something that you struggle with?

These kind of videos are like a group hug. They always spark some sort of self-reflection, I always end up rethinking something in my relationship with work. I think our generation was educated to link self worth with carreer success and it has been a source of frustration for so many people. Thanks for sharing your views and tips on the subject. Love your videos.

I saw an interview of an actor someday, he was talking about auditioning for roles but I really feel like it also works for interviews. He was saying that the people you meet do not want you to fail. They want you to succeed and be the person they are looking for. Changed my perspective!

Daria, the effort you put into these videos clearly shows in the high quality content and engaging visuals! Please keep up the great work ❤
Also, could you do a part 2 of this video for people who are feeling a bit stuck in their job but don't know what career move to make next?

Great video! Something that really changed my perspective on work and reduced a lot of stress for me was to realize that I am worthy completely regardless of my success. All the people I hold dear would love me just the same if I majorly screw up at work and lose my job. Your success at work doesn‘t make you a better or worse person.

"kindness always wins" this is what I got from this video. I'm thinking about even if I'm right in an argument, being kind helps me keep a calm mind and move on with my life. It's a favor that I do to myself, not to the others

Always love your videos! This one was no exception! I feel like those points not only work for job opportunities but life itself. Building connections with others or those weak ties enriches our lives! I’m trying to be friendly and get to know my neighbours a bit more without being creepy haha

Your example with beetroot and trains made me realize, that my job's been 70% beetroot. And I'm fine about the rest 30%, but I don't love it. God, I really need to find another job...

I virtually hugged the YouTube algorithm for sending you my way one video ago 🎉 content fun and deep at the same time plus aestheticly pleasing image/sound-wise - love it 💚

Oh, I wish someone told me about the train thing a couple of years ago😅 Watching your video I’m like „yup, been there, done that”, „SO TRUE”. I couldn’t agree more with your advice. Also, what I’d like to add is „be brave and at least give yourself an opportuinty to TRY”. I studied English & economics and then became a frustrated corporate job worker and now… I’m the happiest massage therapist and my own boss :)

People are afraid of the unknown. So they advise you to do what all the other people are doing. Nothing wrong with it. But you sort of already know where you will end up if you follow the same path. I changed careers this year. Almost everyone advised against it. But tbh I haven’t been this happy for years since the change.
So sometimes it’s good to just do your own thing and follow a path other people can’t (yet) see.

What a great video and pieces of advice, I really found it in a time when I needed to hear that, when trying to break free and doing something diffrent. 😍

I think yes to a part 2! As someone who is almost 30 and did a recent career change it’s helpful knowing we aren’t alone and that it is ok. I know l have been stressed and anxious about the decision and those around me trying to push me to know or find what’s next. Not everyone can find the first career job that becomes their life long job like our parents or grandparents did. I enjoyed the insight and would like to hear more because we all can learn something from each other. ❤

I always look forward to your videos, I’m going through a crisis in my jobs right now and job hunting whilst jobless for the 4th time in my career. I would absolutely love a part 2!

I just failed probation in a job I hated, similar to your operations one it wasn’t what I signed up for and I struggled for 6 months. I was relieved but now feel back to square one. I have learnt that ‘it’s just a job’ and focused on getting back to my hobbies ❤❤
