On the stock market, being just a few milliseconds faster than your competitors can make you lots of money. Can quantum physics help thrifty traders make more money? Well, some of them think so.

Some stocks seem undervalued despite their potential, making you wonder when the market will recognize their true value. How can I invest $200K wisely to secure my future?

Rick: Quantum carburetor? Jesus Morty, you can't just add a sci-fi word to a car word and hope it means something. Looks like something's wrong with the micro-verse battery.

Two years ago at one of the top banks that has a serious quantum computing department, there was an excellent presentation on how quantum computing could be used to break current encryption schemes. When asked what was the largest number that had currently been factored by a quantum computer, the answer came back "35". The hype train ran a tad more slowly after that.

Maybe the word quantum should be replaced with a less techy-sounding word, for example "flubber", so that when you add the word to some badly-thought-out theory it doesn't automatically give it an air of mystique and unassailability. Quantum entanglement could become "flubber linking". "collapse of the wave function" becomes "measuring a flubber". "quantum computing" becomes "calculating by linked flubber" I predict it would be harder to get funding for linked flubber calculators.

Your videos were great!I'm one of your viewers and I've been watching your videos lately. I would like to invest, but I still can't find the right investment to commit to. I will appreciate any help here.

Fear and uncertainty create major wealth. It's those who take the risk and have strong gut to endure the bloody days. When i notice extreme dips i tend to actually move more money to Bitcoin..

Sabine, that was an excellent recap of entanglement, correlation, superposition, and quantum fallacies. You Rock! I wish you had been my physics teacher. Thank you for these YouTube gems 👍👍

8:10 “You can’t trade stocks faster than light”, but your light speed can be faster than your neighbours’ light speed. If you use free-space radio waves (microwave links, ground-wave HF radio etc.) your signal will arrive faster than your neighbour who uses a fibre optic cable due to the velocity factor being ~1 in free space and around 0.7 in fibre optic cable. High speed traders already do this!

Finally, a description of entanglement I can understand! You provide a great service, Sabine.

I saw so many explanatory videos about entangled photons that claim: if you change the property of one photon, the other immediately changes too, and the entanglement remains.
Pretty confusing that they were all wrong. Thank you for enlightening

quantum toothbrush. Now my teeth are in a superposition of brushed and unbrushed --> now my teeth are in a superposition of cavity and no cavity --> now i'm in a superposition of reviving cavity treatment and not reeving cavity treatment --> i'm in a superposition of pain and not pain --> my teeth are now cavity free and I was never fully in pain from cavity treatment.

I feel like there is an element of time travel involved in this proposal. Like when you go back in time and select (change) the number of a lotto ball after the ball has already dropped.

On a different note, How does measuring superposition stack up as a natural random number generator?

I don't have measurements, but i'm pretty sure my wife moves faster than light at 7am in the morning

Untangling particles is even worse than untangling my Christmas Lights every year. How they get tangled while in a box for 10-11 months---- is a MYSTERY !

A decade or so ago, a startup whose name I forget raise $1 billion to build a new undersea fiber cable from across the street from the NY stock exchange computers to near the London stock exchange. This cable saved a few hundred milliseconds versus other methods, giving their clients a tiny advantage for high speed trades.

I don't think the concern is about predicting market movements in a traditional sense. As you said the concern is how quantum computers could give even greater advantage to high frequency trading. The real problem here is the fact that high frequency trading is allowed to continue. Extracting money from computerized arbitrage does not benefit the economy as a whole. It is in fact a drag on the economy and akin to having every citizen's pocket picked a million of times per day for what seems like an inconsequential fraction of a cent. The problem is that is it not inconsequential at scale. No serious study has been given to its long-term impact on the economy. Congress did an analysis of it, and did regulate some aspects to help prevent the technology from inadvertently destabilizing the market during sharp market corrections. As you can see, not a fan

I bought the book. The superluminal laser experiments are related to my time travel experiments, so it will be helpful to use this book for skeptics. However, the laser experiment in the book doesn't take into account for whether photons even exist, or whether the beam behaves as a wave rather than a particle. The book just assumes the particles exist and spread out, and only the space is superluminal. My experiment will record exactly what is happening.

I always liked the analogy of a pair of gloves with each glove in one of two different boxes. It doesn't matter how far away those boxes end up being to each other, billions of light years even, if you open one box and find a right handed glove then you know instantly that the other box contains a left handed glove.

This video was also quite liberating for me. Because it's insanely embarrassing, the fact that someone like me who's about as academically and otherwise challenged as one could imagine for various unfortunate reasons, managed to realize this literally wrong interpretation of entanglement that you described, in basically no time at all after I began finally taking my passions into fundamental physics seriously barely over a year ago, especially when I couldn't think of myself worse than I already do when it comes to my own intelligence. And here we have """prestigious academics""" who started engaging with these fields way before I was born even, ROUTINELY getting stuff like this wrong. It's both gratifying in the sense that I am clearly at least doing something right in my own pursuit of these passions and in learning about them, but it's also insanely disappointing in the sense that you'd clearly expect way better from such people, and in realizing that I'd almost definitely nowadays have to rely on teaching this stuff entirely to myself, and not really rely on other people to teach me in risk of misinformation like this being so prevalent. It's why I also value your channel so highly both personally and intellectually Sabine, you share a lot of these observations and frustrations.
