James Bond Ranked - Complete 007 Franchise Rankography (w/ No Time to Die)

Mainely Movies ranks all 27 James Bond films, from worst to best. On the 60th James Bond Day, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to continue my 007 video series.

This video features my personal ranking of all twenty-seven 007 James Bond films and, of course, some discussion of each film in which I give my reasoning for its placement in the rankography. I enjoyed your rankings and I like your pace and formatting. You don’t spend too much time on each film which is nice. Also, you don’t waste our time at the beginning by spending five or ten minutes describing what you’re going to do and why you’re going to do it. I understand that Octopussy might by a ridiculous title but it was the name of an Ian Fleming title. That was the first Bond film I saw in the theater at the age of 9. As for Moore dressed as a clown, he was in a circus so that isn't a big deal. He also happened to dress as the same clown as the deceased 009 which harkened back to the beginning. I actually liked that. Octopussy is underrated. I believe it is getting more love now than it used to. Of Moore's final three films, this is the most fun. Sure, the plot is convoluted but it is still a blast to watch.

I love hearing all different opinions of the Bond franchise. Similar to franchises like Godzilla and Friday the 13th, it's not perfect but fans usually know that and don't usually come after someone for having a different opinion compared to Star Wars or Harry Potter. Hearing your personal rankings is just as fascinating. Here are my personal rankings from the EON Productions.

25-20: The ones I watch the least.
19-17: The ones I think are good or the very least decent, but are not my favorites.
Everything from 16 and onward are my favorites, but 9-1 are the essential Bond films I would recommend to newcomers.

FYEO at 23!! Girl, you're breaking my heart. FYEO is IMO the best Bond film....It has everything in it, the story structure is brilliant, nothing patchy about it at all....And you have DAF, QOS, and every other Moore film above it!!

1 Die Another Day, 2. Quantum of Solace, 3. Never Say Never Again, 4. Diamonds Are Forever, 5. Casino Royale (1967) Bet you weren't expecting that. Neither was I. Oh I meant these are my bottom 5. But wait. Die Another Day has a great first third, a brilliant swordfight, a superb car chase, an ice cold femme fatale, and Flemingesque pisstake attitude from Bond. Quantum has a sharp opening, weird dynamic with Mr White, brilliant setpieces, the moving death of Matthis; and jaunty agent Fields. NSNA has Barbara Carrera and Klaus Maria Brandauer, enough said. Diamonds Are Forever has a great song, Mr Kidd and Mr Wint; and a car that travels on edge down an alley. Casino Royale has David Niven. Who could make a better Bond? Lazenby

I enjoyed the video. Thanks for keeping it clean - refreshing. I generally agree with most of your ranking. However, No Time to Die will never crack my top 10 though because of the ending. Bond can't die. Ha. Skyfall is my #1 but your top 5 are spot on with mine.

Interesting fact: 15 EON Productions James Bond films in 25 years(1962-1987). Plus of course 1967 Casino Royale and 1983 NSNA. And then: only 10 films in 36 years(1987-2023)!? What a huge slowdown after

Thank you for sharing your ranking. I differ sizeably with 3 of the films which ought to be higher on your list: Thunderball, For Your Eyes Only, and License to Kill. Thunderball has virtues of Tom Jones vocals, nice yacht (gadget), and beautifully dangerous Fiona Volpe who deliciously plays the bad girl. You are correct: underwater battle needs more editing and shortening. For Your Eyes Only has 11 minutes of "chase" including knife-studded motorcycles, and then the beat-up old car chase - what a hoot. Opening Title Song is beautiful. The Alps Chalet adds a nice touch - too bad the blonde spoiled it. Locke's wire-rimmed glasses add menace. License to Kill features the gorgeous but sassy Carey Lowell with wonderful chemistry with Dalton; Zerbe masterfully plays an evil drug smuggler. Bond's chasing a prop plane on a ski is wonderfully envisioned and executed. Finally, you appropriately placed Tomorrow Never Dies but you overlooked the wonderfully seductive Teri Hatcher - mature woman for a change and beautiful, and her contribution. As Judi has retired as "M", I would love to see the sassy secretary under Brosnan rise from the ranks to play M and dish it out to Bond. Thanks for sharing.

Apart from the start and finish Golden Gun is boring so that would be near the bottom..
