I like how the comments are not the typical Megadeth vs Metallica bullshit, or the typical "Mustaine wrote Metallica's catalog" argument
At this point pretty much all fans of both bands know the history that inevitably binds both forever, whatever happened between them was ultimately for the benefit of metal fans because we got two amazing bands that undoubtedly have immense amount of talent, and maybe we nitpick sometimes and point out their flaws, but no doubt all of them have put their names in music history for a damn good reason

I like how you can tell the Mustaine riffs are his because they definitely sound like something that would be on a Megadeth record, the guy definitely has his own distinct character/style.

Kirk's old riffs have an "epic", dark, thrashy quality to them, for lack of better terms.

Cliff's riffs made use of a lot of classical elements and harmonies, which isn't surprising considering his musical history/training.

This video made me realize that Fade to Black is literally just Kirk’s masterpiece. His solos in that song were already some of my favorites in their entire discography, but the fact that he wrote a lot of the riffs too is just ridiculous

I reckon Blackened may be my favourite ever Metallica riff. Newsted didn’t get much opportunity to write for them but that was certainly a great one!

Though I personally prefer Mustaine’s style over Kirk’s, you can’t deny there is something very rhythmic and stylish about Kirk’s style. It truly adds magic to the Metallica sound we all love!

This is why it always puzzles me that Kirk is somehow always left out when people talk about Metallica and their riffs. The guy has written some of the best riffs the band's ever produced. Trujillo & Newsted's contributions (the few that there are) are also VERY strong. Very strong indeed!
