Just a few days after returning from one Inspirato Pass trip (to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico), we drove up to Aspen, Colorado for the next one!

Considering the chilly winter temps up here, the tradition of Colt and Phil chartering a boat to deep sea fish wasn't going to be an option. But that didn't mean fishing was out of the question! We leaned on our expert travel planning team at Inspirato and they hooked us up with an incredible ice fishing excursion, led by local guru Jason Fagre.

Jason's one of the most interesting people on the planet. He's a chef, a survivalist (he trains US military special operations units), an entrepreneur, and a really good fisherman (obviously). By the way, you can follow him here:

He drove us 45 minutes into the wilderness (far from cell coverage) to the frozen Ruedi Reservoir, where we packed up his snowmobile and foldable ice fishing shelter and headed out onto the ice.

We spent about 5 hours on the lake (Jason made us organic sandwiches and plenty of snacks) and caught exactly 3 fish in that amount of time. That may not sound impressive, but when you see the size of the final fish that Colt reeled in, you should be impressed. It was a 30-inch lake trout and easily the largest fish Colt had ever caught.

So while I missed the warm, beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean, this fishing experience probably takes the cake. Our guide was incredible, the experience was unique, and the results were fantastic. Needless to say, our family at like kings that night!

Colt now has me beat for biggest fish ever caught. That one had fish inside of it that were at about the size of my average catch. Good job Colt.

That looked fun. I couldn't go without that warm tent though. My Caribbean blood is too thin!

Would you be willing to share Jason’s info to be able to book him as a guide?

It really would be best to show big fish like that being released next time. Keep the smaller lake trout, release the giants, and create a monster to be caught another day.. its sad seeing a trophy laker with its guts spilled on the ice man.
