Senate Majority Leader Schumer chided former president Donald Trump after he called for the “termination” of the Constitution over the 2020 election.

As party leaders remained silent, a few Republicans on Sunday rejected Donald Trump's extraordinary suggestion for "termination" of the U.S. Constitution and his installation as president. Trump's demand came in the wake of a report from Twitter – authorized by new owner Elon Musk – about its handling of the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 campaign.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump posed a question to supporters regarding his false claims of voter fraud: "Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?" He added: "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."

I would like to see our Constitution viewed for what it is: a basic law designed to protect the properties class of the nation that it formalized in 1789. Human rights, the Bill of Rights, was an afterthought needed to obtain ratification. While there was a frontier on the west, the oppression by the wealthy class could be escaped by going to it. When, by the 1880s, the frontier of good lands had just about disappeared, the heavy hand of the railroads, the miners, and others of privilege had been felt, and even the 14th amendment, meant to protect the freed slaves from the state legislatures, was transformed into a Bill of Rights for corporations by the Supreme Court of the US, under the Constitution. In the 20th century, the Constitution's chief bulwark against the wars that kings wage endlessly was breached, first by Harry Truman and then by all subsequent Presidents who simply went to war without declaring it. We now have the most corrupt government that ever existed on the face of the earth, as predicted by Pres. Eisenhower - who still did nothing to halt the growing power of the "military-industrial complex."
Should we follow Trump and abandon the Constitution? Certainly not! But we should not celebrate our basic law, as if it did not need major changes.
