Spaghetti used to be a must-have during a children’s birthday party celebration. That is why the Filipino spaghetti is sweet, and Jollibee used to market their spaghetti mostly with kids in their commercials. Nowadays because these kids who grew up with Jollibee spaghetti are all grown up, the taste is now very nostalgic for them.

Anyone ever read the closed captioning? Sometime when emmy says "itadakimasu" the caption reads "eat the ducky moss" it's hilarious

Basically every Filipino kid's birthday party :

Spaghetti

Those friggin hotdog and marshmallows skewed on a barbeque stick (usually stuck on to a piece of Styrofoam covered in aluminum foil)

Fried chicken

"Pa-bitin" where the parents swiftly lower the "device" so that the kids can pull out the stuck-on plastic bags (basically candy and toys in a plastic bag taped on to a lattice-laid out bamboo wood tied onto a wire of some sort)

Goodie bags they give when the party is over

Balloons decorated all over the place (the kids usually take them out after the party to play with them)

Sorry if this was long! I tried to describe it as best as I could so you guys can get a sense of the Filipino culture :)

I am very fortunate my local Asian market caters to Filipinos. I get that sauce all the time. Deeeelicious!

Hi Emmy! Growing up as a Filipino the sweet-style spaghetti was how I understood spaghetti "should" be, so finally tasting the authentic Italian-style was a shock to me. I now love both styles. Hahahaha.

People below have suggested adding cream or condensed milk and other ingredients, but a cousin taught me this trick: if you want the sweet sauce to smell smokier and have more umami, add finely minced bell peppers to the mix. You won't taste the bell peppers per se but they do elevate the taste of the sauce. This smokier sweet spaghetti is best paired with Filipino-style barbecue!

Hi Emmy, when I use that pre made sauce, i dont add water. Also I add some tomato paste while sauteing the beef (about 1/4c) to counter the sweetness and make it richer like Jollibee's. You dont need to add banana catsup anymore coz it's already included in that mix. Banana ketchup is sweet by itself. It's available at Filipino or asian stores. Some Walmart has it. Check the asian isle.

The banana ketchup makes it Filipino style spaghetti.. I'm so glad I live in California you can find banana ketchup at Walgreens lol.

Had my 42nd birthday this past weekend and jokingly said “ama I want sketti!” And showed up to the birthday party and she had a giant pot of it. It’s gone now. As a now 42 year old Filipino child, I still enjoy this.

My great grandmother lived in the Philippines for many years before returning to the states & made this for me as a child. I never knew it was a Filipino style dish, it was just Gramma’s sketti but this recipe is exactly what I remember! Nostalgia!!

Omg Filipino spaghetti brings back memories. Growing up my neighbour would make a big pot & bring some over. Could never get enough of it!

It would be really great if you could try some Caribbean dishes, mainly from Trinidad(since Jamaica's jerk is already popularized) as there is such a cultural mashup with all the foods and cultures. Look at: Mango chow, souse, pelau(my fav, veggie, not meat version)and of course doubles....but that one is super labour intensive....but so very good!!!

I'm Filipino and this is how I make that spaghetti ☺️

Step 1: saute chopped 1 whole garlic and 3pcs of violet onions in oil.

Step 2: add ground pork or beef

Step 3: In the same pot add for 1kg Filipino style spaghetti sauce.

Step 4: add beef cubes 2pcs.
Add salt (depends on your preference)
Add ground pepper
Add sugar (depends on your preference)
Add these until you get to the point that it tastes like Jollibee

Boil until sauce becomes thick..

And sauce is done!.
Step 5: Add it to the pasta and sprinkle tons of cheese on it

Some also add banana ketchup in it... But I don't add it on mine I just add sugar ☺️

Sometimes I add tomato ketchup not banana ketchup to have some kick of tangy taste to it because the filipino style spaghetti sauce already taste like banana ketchup or kinda sweet so I need the tomato ketchup to have a tangy kick to it. But this is optional ☺️

Taste of our food depends on our mood tho hahhaha.. the best with spaghetti is Fried chicken. In the Philippines fried chicken is always served when there is spaghetti.. they are like husband and wife for us Filipinos..

Also pork shanghai is a bomb. It's always wiped out when there is a party.
