Did Darth Vader LOSE on PURPOSE?! | Star Wars Theory

The duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker at the end of Episode VI is fantastic, but there's something about it that doesn't sit right with me. Looking at it realistically, Vader is far more powerful and never should have lost to his son... so how did this happen?

It's because he fell over at the end of the duel and Luke gained the HIGH GROUND!

The duel between Vader and Luke in Return of the Jedi is by far my favorite. My most favorite moment in all Star Wars is when Vader does nothing to counter Luke's rage attack. A man that has killed dozens, if not hundreds, of Jedi letting a farmboy beat him? "Why?" you may wonder. Because he loved his son! The love of a father to his son is what made Vader prefer dying rather than killing his son. Just writing this bring tears to my eyes.

I am glad I have found this video, I've always felt like that duel has deeper meaning. It makes no sense that Luke is better duelist than Vader. Yes, he was strong in the force and had good lightsaber skills, but compared to Vader's knowledge of the force and amazing experience in lightsaber combat, Luke's victory was possible only because the inner conflict inside Vader absolutely stunned him.

I don't know if I agree about Vader LETTING Luke win, but I actually thought the same exact thing about what Vader says and how his telling Luke to join the dark side is more of a plea rather than something more evil — even when I watched these movies when I was younger I was never really "afraid" of Vader I just always kind of saw him as this troubled soul and someone who really just needed someone like Luke to help him (this was before I had even seen the prequels) I've never really seen him as a villain, of course he IS, but at his core he's just always seemed to be something more

Luke's victory was due to many small advantages that he had, 1. Vader built his fighting style as a response to the techniques taught in the jedi temple (none of which Luke knew), So he was unfamiliar with his style 2. The jedis techniques were flawed, Luke never learned these techniques (never learned stuff that wouldn't help him) 3. The jedi would pick a fighting style and use it (may change it a little, or if master duelist retool entirely) Luke built his from the ground up as a response to what he had to deal with (as Vader and Commander Kreel were the two biggest lightsaber wielding threats he had to deal with, he built the style to deal with them directly) in a way Vader was his lightsaber instructor 4. The only thing he was ever taught was to listen to the force, and beware of the dark and this cannot be overstated as this is probably the biggest reason for his victory (under most circumstances Vader would've won against any other jedi, Yoda and Windu included, As they were known to be overconfident at times) 5. Vader was very conflicted, and was maybe performing at 60%. Also Luke's dark side boost had a big part of it.

In the book it was saying that Vader wanted to defeat palatine and when he found out he had a son he thought maybe he could defeat the emperor Vader was actually hoping that Luke would kill palpatine for him that's why he Didn't want to kill Luke and also he saw redemption for anikan

Good theory. It definitely seems like Vader was going a bit easy on Luke.

It's hardly a theory but just exploring why he lost: he was grief stricken

It's interesting how Vader says 'There is no conflict', yet Vader was filled with emotions and conflict. Almost like he was trying to hide his doubts. Luke on the other hand had no doubts and had no conflicts up until Vader threatened to turn Leia to the darkside. He was going to turn Vader or die trying. Luke states to the emperor, "Soon I'll be dead and you along with me." To Vader he says, "Your thoughts betray you father. I can feel the good in you, the conflict." Luke wasn't just saying that to get under Vader and the Emperor's skin, he was resolved. Luke makes these statements that make me think that he was in control of the lightsaber duel and not Vader. Vader was in deep conflict and the emperor couldn't see it because of his overconfidence. 'Your overconfidence is your weakness' Luke says to the emperor. Also, the emperor questions Vader's emotions earlier when saying, "I wonder if your feelings on this matter are clear." I firmly believe Luke was in control the entire time, that is until he threw away his lightsaber and got blasted by the emperor, but maybe he did that to force Vader to make a choice?

seems like Luke never went back to train with Yoda after Empire Strikes Back until the time he returned in Return of the Jedi and Yoda passed. So Luke trained under Yoda for possibly less than a month in total

Doesn't Ashoka know that Anakin is darth Vader

a plausible theory. i've often thought that vader basically gave up toward the end of the battle. i wouldn't doubt that everything you said had something to do with it.

What a messed up family: Anakin's mom gets impregnated by the Force. Then Anakin's mom dies in her son's arms after getting gang-raped by an entire tribe of Sandpeople. Then, Anakin kidnaps and tortures his own daughter. Then, Anakin's daughter goes off and makes out with her brother.

I tried to force push the like button but since I don't have the power of the force and the like button isn't a physical button I couldn't

I think you are part right except that vader was luring luke to anger to trap him in the darkside plus vader slips, luke then unleashed his anger. Vader was in no position to recover

I thought the emperor was aiding Darth Vader's ability through the force and turned his focus onto Luke which weakened Vader enough for Luke to defeat Vader and get a feel for dark side force which the emperor planned to use to turn Luke.

I always thought his suit just had a malfunction affecting his ability to fight.

This is my favorite video from you so far! Another thing to think about is if Ahsoka couldn't kill him who actually trained under him and the Jedi order, there is no way Luke is winning against him that easily. The battle between Ahsoka and Vader was about three or four years I want to say before Luke came on the scene so it wasn't his age that gave him a disadvantage. I love this Theory so much even if Disney themselves tell you it's wrong I'm going to believe it anyway because I CAN DANG IT TO MY FANDOM TOO DISNEY!!!
