Too expensive, too heavy, and almost entirely impractical. But who cares about practicality, when you have a golden gun that shoots giant bullets?

How can one forget counter strike? This gun was a hand cannon in that game!

I love this design and how iconic it is. Practicality? Sure! It falls a bit short. But it really is effective at what it was designed to do.

As a gun enthusiast and collector, I have to disagree agree with the DE being a flop.
It was never supposed to be a replacement for more run of the mill hand guns. No one ever expected it to out sale the glock19, beretta 92, 1911, s&w29, ext, ext.
It’s a gun designed for a very niche market and has done well on that market. If the gun was a flop, one could expect to see 2 things.
1. Short production life
2. Very low resale value
Neither of those things happened with the DE.

I own a mk1. I will say that it’s heavy and VERY finicky on the ammo it likes to shoot. It’s definitely not my EDC. It is however VERY accurate and much softer to shot then my .44mag revolvers.
I can say not for sale, and I think a lot of the other DE owners would agree.

For gods sake, even non gun people know what a Desert eagle is when they see one. It’s probably one of the most recognizable handguns ever made.

I can’t call that a flop.

Tbh this video just explained why it was a success

How is it a "flop"? It is a massive sales success. It is accurate, beautiful, powerful, and a work of art.

I find that the recoil on mine which is properly chambered in 50AE, is the exact same as the recoil on my Glock 30 which is chambered in 45acp but with a short barrel. Also I feel the hit of the Deagle more when firing with 2 hands rather than one handed which kind of makes no sense but it definitely feels more natural and comfortable shooting one handed.

From a "gun enthusiast's" perspective, this video is much higher quality than your previous firearm video. Thank you for doing the research and making this video!

Can confirm recoil on the 50ae mark 19 isn’t much more than that of your typical 9mm. The muzzle brake and weight of the gun make it very manageable.

The .44 Desert Eagle feels like a Cadillac compared to my Automag IV in .45 Win Mag . You could feel the muzzle blast from the Automag on your face and it is nowhere as smooth operating as the DE . Love using the Desert Eagle .

The .50AE is amazingly easy to shoot, even one handed. The gas system makes it really forgiving and the only reason it would be difficult to shoot is the weight and the lore of this gun making people overcompensate.

It’s not a flop.. it’s just a niche gun… I bought mine in .357 Mag (The originally designed caliber) because it’s much more practical in terms of cost for range
usage and fun!

I watched this same video in a different format, almost word for word. I've had my DE .44 magnum since 1989 and I love it. It's great for what it was made for.

I would consider it more of a novelty than a flop. Given it's notoriety in the film industry, you could say it is a cult classic. People usually own one because of it's uniqueness and rarity, which also makes it a great conversation piece, that you can actually shoot and have lots of fun with. That's my two cents worth. This was still a great video though, and very informative. Thanks!

Interesting, but I wish the video had given some explanation as to why they considered the Desert Eagle a "total flop". The closest I've seen was that it wasn't adopted by any military or police force. So, a weapon which is aparently popular enough with civilian markets to remain in production for nearly 40 years is a flop because it never saw popularity outside those markets?

Someone in my concealed carry class tried to qualify with a desert eagle. But he was a new shooter and was suffering and was about to fail. So the instructor offered him a .22 out of kindness, and he passed..Lesson: You can’t buy badassedness, and you can’t buy cool.
