Classy statement from Hall. Also, I'm pretty comfortable saying that he would have pulled more than 400kg sumo if that was the stance he normally trained in.

500kg is 500kg. There's less than a handful of people in the world that know what it takes to pick that weight off the floor regardless of technique. I'm not surprised at all Eddie Hall gave him respect.

He's a real lifter, not an attention seeking keyboard warrior in the YouTube comments. I'm really happy to hear this from him.

Browner just pulled 500kg a couple weeks ago and got pretty close to 510kg

Even though I consider them 2 completely different lifts, anyone lifting 502.5 off the floor regardless of how they do it has all my respect.

Hey Matt, I know you are/used to be a grad student. Can you share a day in the life video? How did you manage your time? I've recently started grad school and it's been really tough.

Credit to Eddie. Someone with his status in the lifting world putting the sumo haters in their place!
Personally my sumo and conventional are the same "bUT sUMo is EAsiEr"

I train both, but my conventional is usually 10% stronger than my sumo, and raising my sumo has so far raised my conventional as well...all this to say, conventional is cheating and I am here for it

Matt, your takes on training are sobering and straight to the point. Don't change!

Def technique that is the difference. Even now im still trying to figure out how to get the sumo to feel "comfortable", and get that same tight spring like sensation like when I pull conventional.

I don't understand why we treat them as the same test of strength, they clearly have different mechanical demands. I understand it's inconvenient to have a powerlifting event where the deadlift is only in one style but the musculature is stressed differently. Anyways I love sumo, I think that 502.5 kg sumo pull is amazing, there isn't even a hitch and I think strongman should have a sumo event. Strongman has all these different styles....hummertire, car deadlift, elephant bar, conventional why not a sumo event too?

So this gym lift is ok but not thors? Eddie is wild.

To be completely fair, I think there’s a very small chance that Eddie tried to truly max effort a sumo pull at the time of his peak deadlift abilities. There’s a good chance he’d have pulled over 400

There have got to be 2 separate lifts in comp. We need to expand the sport - the debate is getting old.

Anyone who's followed Eddie knows he takes these things well. He's given respect to judges in competition for giving him no reps and when he does have an issue, it's with the principle e.g. Thor lifting 501 in his home gym, not sanctioned or in comp.

Sumo is pretty damn difficult and all credit to guys that can pull both ways! Jamal and the other guy in this video are amazing deadlifters and can pull the world in both styles. Personally would like to see conventional but still insane to see 502kg pulled in sumo it is crazy!!

the difference between Eddie and your average sumo puller is that eddie is bigger then most sumo wrestlers

Let's be honest, lifting 500KG off the floor is impressive no matter how you do it..

everybody can go to the moon now but Neil Armstrong will always be remembered for being the first one. Eddie will always be remembered for his legendary 500kg.
