More Black Americans are going vegan in part to combat heart disease | Sound of Ideas

Показать описание
Research has found that about 8% of Black Americans are vegan or vegetarian which is much higher than the 3% rate among Americans of other racial or ethnic groups. For some, going plant based with ones diet is seen as reducing the likelihood of developing chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure.
We'll talk to two members of the vegan community, including a Black chef in Northeast Ohio, about why eliminating animal products is an increasingly appealing move. We'll also talk about what going vegan means and what the common misconceptions are.
Later, we'll preview this weekend's Tri-C Jazz fest, and hear a conversation with two outgoing heads of major arts institutions -- the Cleveland International Film Festival and Cleveland Cinematheque. (Air date: June 20, 2024).
