My grandfather died recently and he had a ton of leftover harbor freight tools, some he never used. I dusted off a bunch of stuff and low and behold, he had the model 47065 21 gallon oil air compressor. I took that home immediately.

Free is awesome.

CFM and duty cycle is king... just try to run a media blasting cabinet... If you just topping up the tires every few week, or filling an air mattress, a small oiless is OK.. as capacity need goes up, a conventional oil crankcase with higher duty cycle is pretty important.

I bought the 29 gallon oiled air compressor and absolutely love it. I would hate for HF to get rid of the oil line. I am tempted to buy a small one to just keep in the back of the truck.

Personally I prefer oiled compressors. They’re a lot quieter and last forever. It’s so ridiculously easy to change the oil on them, I don’t understand why people are so against them.

How far down the road would you drive your car/truck with no oil?

I bought a 10 gallon oil lubed mcgraw air compressor. It's nice. The only thing different about them is the paint job, name and p.s.i. ! Same motors, pumps, and parts. Some oilless, some oil lubed. Mcgraw is replacing the Central Pneumatic brand.

Thanks for the video Red.
I wouldn't have an oil less one.
Even if i was just using it to change tires. They are louder and break down faster. And generally run hotter than ones with oil.

I think Harbor Freight will keep the oil compressors, but they will have a different name and will have higher quality and higher prices of course. Looks like HF wants to go big league with all these new brand names. They want to steal tool buyers from Home Depot and Lowe's in my opinion..
I kinda liked the old Harbor Freight better when they got the quality better and still kept the old brand names and the prices low. HF's prices have been steadily climbing on higher priced goods and I think they are trying to justify these higher prices with new name brands.

I really hope they don't get rid of the oiled compressors. I have the 21 gallon compressor and have had it for 4 years now and I like it a lot, it works well and I don't have to worry about the magic sauce they use wearing out. It's an interesting time at HF.

Let's hope they keep oiled units in the stores. I have an 8 or nine year old Central Pneumatic pancake compressor (oiled) that has done everything from roofing, framing, finish work with paints/stains, and even textured the walls in whole houses. The little thing is pretty dang bullet proof and easy to carry from one job to the next.

I will keep my oiled. It just seems more durable to me. I use mine for painting, cutting, air hammer, impacts etc. I don't feel a new oil less will hold up as long as my maintained OIL filled pump.

I have had 2 of them oil less compressors and I didn’t learn my lesson both went to hell.
I bought a 5 horse twin pump from H.F. ( made by Quince ) and put it on my old 60 gallon tank.
And it’s still running good 26 years later.

I'm needing a new compressor for airbrushing custom RC bodies, and spraying liquid mask from my sprayer, so I need good working air pressure and a nice size tank. Would that Mcgraw be a good choice?

I hope they don't get rid of the oiled compressors. Luckily I just replaced an 8 gallon that ran for 10 years, stored outside, and the motor broke, not the pump...with their 10 gallon for more flow. I guess I will see in 10 years if I need to look elsewhere for an oiled compressor. Oiless just doesn't last.

My experience w/ both oil fee and oiled, as a large tank capacity, oiled is better to keep cooled at best. Oil free really should be for small compressors only ( my opinion) the heat generated by the on/ off (friction) operations takes a toll on 99% of all parts.

I have the 8 gallon oil lubed one. Had it since 2010 or so. It’s a true workhorse. From painting to blowing out rv water systems. It gets the job done. If it was oil less it would be dead long I likely would never have bought it in the first place! Go lubed or go home! 😉

I have a 5 HP 30 gallon craftsman air compressor I bought in 1987. Am I supposed to be changing the oil in it? Lol

For the past two years, I've owned the HF 21 gallon oil compressor. It's loud but works great and with NO leaks. I have no need for an oil-less one. I modified it by adding a drain hose with shutoff valve for easy water drainage. Again, no leaks...keeps pressure. I drain it with every use and, unless I'm using it, I keep it unplugged (I live in the lightening capital of the world). It should last me for the rest of my life.
