Globalization is a buzzword in many ways. But how has the world developed so a pop star from Korea can take over the world (Psy) or a fast food restaurant from one country dominates the industry in numerous countries around the world (McDonalds). The drivers of globalization are quite interesting.

It's interesting that I am Georgia (country not state) And certain things are here (smartphones, McDonald's, Hollywood movies, Levi's, and hundreds of other things. But what fascinates me are the things that are different. In a way we are at a crossroads of different large markets Europe, the Middle East, Russia, America, and some far eastern So there are some radically different products from what I can find on the US shelves. The local Georgian products are important too. (Wine, meat, eggs, tons of fruit, etc.) But there is a huge mall here now. When I walk into it I could be anywhere. And so the question Mark, how much will the global market consume, and are there many forces of localization at work? (This is Byrne the Anadromist on my new channel.)

Globalization allows all people to get rich. The problem is that not everyone gets rich at the same rate. As long as maritime transport is more efficient, countries with access to the seas and oceans will have an advantage over countries without access to the sea.

I would think that better transport and more trade agreements are more the effect and not the cause of globalization. There is still a cost involved in transport and offshore production rather than local production, and only later do you expand outside your original market. I wonder if the actual drivers might be taxation, labour problems, and regulations that stifle production onshore.
I am not an expert, but I saw how the UK and US used to be productive and now are not. What do you think?

Transportation really has gone a long way. I was able to ship my scuba gear to another part of the world. I knew my gear would work in other countries because of the scuba diving standards, plus I always ask if they can work with my equipment. Having my gear made it so much cheaper than renting and I trust my gear. If I needed to repair my gear, they could repair it with their stock.

I also love knowing I can get my vice, Mt. Dew anywhere in the world. Even though the change of flavor in Canada did take some getting used to.

"Gangnam Style" and "good music" in the same breath. 🤔😂 Excellent overview of globalization drivers.

The #1 item that says globalization is the resin chair. These chairs are in remote villages in the Amazon !
