And the funny thing is both Xavi and Iniesta were defensive midfielder and Busquets was Central Midfielder in the youth.

The greatest midfield trio and the 3 greatest indv midfielders of all times. Would walk straight into my greatest XI. And by greatest I mean past 25 yrs past quarter-century. Don't go before that coz football has changed a lot so let's take past 25 yrs only as the actual criteria!!

This midfield was spectacular. But from another angle. The fact that the support cast for Barca's midfield trident had deadly forward players and great fullbacks, it just made it harder to stop them.

The same midfield had another great support cast in the national team when you collate the array of midfielders Spain had at the time. Had the national team have better forwards and fullbacks, they could have dominated national team football a whole lot longer than they did.

This was the midfield to have. They made all the right support cast blossom.

In terms of raw skill on the ball/intelligence, they were certainly the best midfield of any team I have ever seen.
However, what I found impressive about the classic Barca side was how they complemented these geniuses with a host of excellent team players to balance out the team: Alves, Mascherano, Pedro, etc... were all vital as well! It seemed to me that in later years, the quality of these 'secondary' players was often not quite up to the level of the 2010-2012 era.

I’m a Madrid fan. That being said the only midfield that can compare is KCM… and I’d probably still give the edge to this Barca midfield
