Job Searching Ep. 5 | getting rejected, back to square one, my job tracker & how I stay organized

Hello friends,

This obviously was not the update that I wanted to share but unfortunately, I did not get an offer. Truthfully, I wasn't overly enthusiastic about this company at the beginning, but as I learned more about role and engaged with the team I genuinely felt like I could have been a great fit. It's also one of those situations where after investing so much time and energy, you start having that sunk-cost fallacy feeling where you just want the offer to validate all that effort.

I don't want to be dramatic but rejection really does suck. Behind the scenes, not everything is as polished and swift as it seems on social media or LinkedIn. I wanted to share more of a candid glimpse into the rollercoaster of emotions that come with job hunting. Even though I do believe that I am a great candidate and have a strong background, it’s been difficult for me to get interviews and get an offer too.

If you're on the same boat, I hope this video and series continue to give you encouragement. This is all apart of the journey and I hope that we all stay resilient and don't give up 💪

xx,
Julia

I work as a Data Engineer and I spent about 6 months looking for my current role, funny thing is for almost every month I was interviewing for a company I could see myself working in but I was always rejected.
I cried just like you did, maybe even worse, lol. And I doubted myself so much but when its for you it’s gonna come easy, i tell you! Its not a rejection, just a redirection!
8 stages is no joke and to get to the final round, you’re a freaking bad ass! I’m rooting for you!

The market is highly competitive, which can make it difficult to secure a job without a referral. However, the fact that you are receiving interviews is a positive sign. Many people's applications go unnoticed, so your progress is encouraging. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for being so raw and vulnerable with dealing with rejections. Speaking from personal experience and from hindsight, the rejections we receive are all part of leading us to the right opportunity for us. When it happens, you know it will all be worth it and everything happens for a reason. Each interview you go through is also making you even better so that when it comes to the right job, you'll be even better equipped for it to get it. I hope you are finding some encouragement during this time and I just know that your next role will be something that is perfect for you ❤

I just wanted to say filming this process is really helpful for a lot of us who are/have been unemployed or are job searching. I interviewed for a job recently that I knew I would have been great at and was rejected and told by the hiring manager it was a one point difference between me and the hired candidate. It was so demotivating and I beat myself up over it for days. At the end of the day we know we are capable and intelligent, this whole process is extremely taxing and emotionally damaging at times. Remember your worth and use the support around you, all the best xx

Companies are way too big headed atm, they can’t hold down employees but only want the perfect candidate. Honestly take a rejection as a blessing that you won’t work for a toxic company, the perfect job is waiting for you ❤

8 rounds of interview is just pure BS.

Thank you for your patience with this upload! I had a last minute trip to Asia so things have been a bit delayed. I wish I can tell you that I got an offer - but unfortunately the search continues 🥲 This video is a bit long & more chatty than usual but I hope you enjoy 🫶

Finding a job always sucks. Exactly in the same process since 6 months, got rejected many times in the final round. 15 years of experience and feel like a junior who's trying to find her first job. Don't give up. ❤

it is honestly so unfair and disrespectful that it takes so many weeks and rounds to interview for positions that you don't even know if you are gonna get. i am really cheering for you and your success on the next ones to come! <3

I’m in the same spot as you right now. I completely understand not wanting to hype yourself up or get too excited, because you never know. i’ve been unemployed for 3 months now, and i’ve been rejected so many times, it’s so hard.

I think most people only share the bright side of their lives but hardly ever share their dark side, so thank you for being willing to share real life. I'm experiencing the same situation as you (being rejected), and it's comforting to know we're not alone. Keeping the faith that the right opportunity will come along eventually.

this is a small tip but works, when ever you got rejected by a company or a recruiter you have to tell yourself that company is not enough fortunate to work with you and they are missing a gem like you and you can also tell yourself that there is something bigger waiting for me ahead and your grief evaporates all the best

Julia, please don't cry. I've been through six rounds of interviews with the same big tech company several times, and each time, I was rejected without any feedback. After the second rejection, I started to see it as free job interview practice. Sometimes, when the big tech company reached out, I was too busy to respond, so I turned them down. I've been in the IT industry since 1992 when I first looked for a job in the newspaper. I can assure you that you're going to be great, and one day you'll look back on this and laugh. Most importantly, you haven't wasted any time being unemployed. Your YouTube videos are very helpful and motivating to viewers.

I'm gonna tell you the same thing I've told my son, who graduated with his bachelor's in Computer Science last June and is obviously entry level. The right thing will happen, it always does, unavoidable and true. He went through 6 interview processes, made it to the final 3xs, while working in the interim. Took 9 months but he's in, started 2 weeks ago. The field ya'll are in is frustrating as heck at the moment, but you're gonna be just fine, guaranteed! I've watched your channel for a bit now, you're great, organized, the right fit will come, wait for it, it will be worth it😊

Ive been interviewing after tech layoffs, and was recently told the position that I had done a final round for, no longer exists because the team decided to repurpose the role to something else...after I had spent hours and weeks to prep for all the rounds of interviews. It sucks, but I am telling myself that it was not meant to be and that something right will come my way. Thanks for sharing your journey as well. We got this!!

Julia - I'm only 6 minutes into this video and feel I must tell you this: You are meant for bigger and better things! I know you are disappointed BUT appreciate how far you've come, the amazing experience you have acquired in your young life (I'm 57 and want to hug you right now) and the amazing potential yet on your horizon. You are a ROCKSTAR! Be thankful for the experience and forge ahead, my dear. You got this! : ) It will all be ok ... I promise. : ) 😍 Now on to finish this video! : )

I understand what it's like to get so close to the finish line and then getting rejected because somebody did better. I used to be very angry and frustrated at first, but then I shifted my mentality to be happy for that person. What if they were in the same situation as me and this was finally their offer after months of rejection? What if their financial situation was worse and they couldn't afford to get rejected again? This was the only way for me to not be so hard on myself and move on to the next. Now, I finally have a job that's better than the one I was rejected from. Rejection is truly redirection! You are talented, Julia! I promise you that with the way things are going, you will have a great opportunity soon.

Thanks for being realistic! It's not easy to get hire nowadays even if you're qualified to do the job.

You were so respectful and kind even though the news from the recruiter wasn’t what you were hoping for. You are truly one of a kind! Don’t let this discourage you. Sometimes the universe is working in our favor even when we don’t think. What’s meant for you, will happen!!! ❤
