Raspberry Pi Tutorial 16 - Motion Detection in Python 3

Making the motion detection scripts useful for our Python 3 Cookie Thief detection system.

This video is part of a series of building a practically 'useful' security system using Raspberry Pi to catch the Cookie Thief. I am not a computer scientist, software engineer, programmer or electrical engineer. Everything I cover was self taught using resources I found on the web. I thought it would be great to put together a series of videos that consolidates what I have learned to yield a single resource to cover many interesting topics about the Raspberry Pi! Having said that, due to my relatively little experience, I may have made mistakes or could have done certain things better. If you are aware of such a mistake, please let me know either in the comments or through email!

Very useful series of videos. They have saved me quite a lot of time. Some installation details should be updated, but on the overall, a splendid help for the people wanting to do something useful with a Raspi and not having neither the knowledge nor the time to develop the programs from scratch. I was having trouble with the sudo pip-3.2 install Pillow, however sudo pip3 install Pillow worked for me.

Alexander Baran-Harper I realize this is a 5 yr old video but I am a bit of a late starter in the Raspberry Pi seen and I am hoping for a little help if possible. I tried to install the python3 pip but I can't do the command sudo pip-3.2 install Pillow It says command not found. What do I need to replace Pillow?

hello bud, i have downloaded all your files and have been following you along this sample, now i sm stuck, not sure why when i run the file P3cam.py got it off your google drive, i get nothing!!


i have tested the pythong picam.py from you and it works fine, gets fotos when there is motion in front of the cam. do you know what this could be ? hope to hear back soon thanks in advance rafa

I have followed your instructions, but when I try to install Pillow, I get errors. Is there a newer version of pip, or by following the instructions in your video, does Pillow actually install. I am a novice Raspberry Pi user, with no experience in linux. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Hallo, I love your tutorials and I realised you are using raspbian weezy. I am having trouble setting up my raspberrypi. It comes with an SD card pre-installed with rasbian jessie(latest release). I am using windows 8 and the mode of communication with my raspi is via ethernet cable. I am also using home wifi and enabled sharing so that the raspi could also get access to the internet. response is okay and i can even ping its IP address from command prompt. but now a problem arises every time I try to ssh from putty. there is a recurrent error " Network error.software caused connection abort". how do i go around this.
