Myths about HITTING | Positive discipline

All babies go to the “hitting stage”, these are some things to keep in mind:

1. Hitting, biting and throwing is a normal part of development for most kids. It's common, and in most cases, it won't last forever.

2. Like crawling, walking and talking, hitting feels exciting and powerful to kids. Lots of kids hurt without understanding it hurts, this is also one of the ways the communicate with us!

3. Even if they know hitting is 'Off limits,' most kids are incapable of controlling their impulses until age 3-4. At that point, impulse control is just a budding ability-they'll still need lots of help.

4. Hitting starts because kids are curious, trying to regulate, or trying to communicate. Kids are rarely hitting because they choose to hit, and almost never because they actually want to hurt others.

Next time your baby hit, stay calm and redirect he behavior!

Kids don't even have the brain capacity to empathize at all until they are 2. And they keep developing that skill until they are 8 or 9.
You can teach a toddler not to hit, but they won't fully understand the reasoning behind it.

My daughter just turned 1years old and most times when shes frustrated but sumtimes when she's super happy and excited she'll hit herself in the head what can that mean please? She understands the word no. We calmly and politely tell her no try to understand why she's doing it and explain to her not to and she'll listen but she'll forget every now and than she'll stop. But when i see it i put my hands in front of hers to block her self from hitting herself in the head. Sometimes itll be with her hands and sometimes with her toy. But shes so sweetttt and cuteee I love my baby
