WARNING! NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS!
FIGYELEM! FELKAVARÓ TARTALOM!
In this video You can watch, how storks killing their babies. These are sad moments, but it is a part of nature. Stork kills its own baby, when necessary, when not enough food or storklet is sick. In this case the adult stork throws baby out of nest.

Honestly, being that much smaller than the others, it’s a wonder it was still alive at that point.

As harsh as it may seem, the reason the little one was removed was because it is the last hatch, and was not as big and strong as the others. Nature dictates that the weak should not survive. Instead of using so much food, energy and more time on the little one, it os better spent toward those that are stronger. They have limited amount of time in the year that they can afford to care for their brood. Eliminating the weaker and smaller one or ones shortens that time that they have to care for their young. The others will grow faster now because the food shared between them is now a 4-way split instead of a 5-way split. Not to mention, being smaller means you get overlooked sometimes when feeding does occur. Instead of prolonging the small chick's suffering, removal was the best option. I am not saying it isn't sad. It is just the way it goes.

I witnessed such a story in our nest near my house.
Luckily, I was nearby and was able to pick up the 5-day-old chick from the nest. I was shocked - what to do with it?
Then he calmed down, read the advice and began to raise him instead of storks. That's how we lived. The storks raised four in the nest, and I raised the fifth on the ground.
I made him a separate nest in the barn. He fed fish, mice and chickens. He grew up strong and even began to fly earlier than his brothers in the nest. But this is a lot of work and it is difficult to do it every year.

Edit (after 2 years I guess): Ok apparently this needs clarification. I was describing how I personally felt while watching the video. I was not saying that what happened was right or wrong, or that that even matters.

It’s always heartbreaking to see something helpless suffer, especially at the hands (or in this case beak) of someone they’re relying on to care for them. It’s tragic to see that their last moments were full of confusion and pain. This little guy was innocent and just drew the short straw…

I first thought there were only 4 chicks and assumed she was going to kill the smallest of the 4, until i saw the true runt. Honestly, I'm surprised she didn't just eat it.

I suppose that’s slightly less cruel than what birds of prey do, where the last one is basically emergency food for its siblings

Same thing with other birds. They lay late spare eggs. If the older ones look healthy, the discard the spare. Resources are limited. Raring relies on timing and seasons. Spare ones are for the worst cases which may be harder to raise (off season).

It's like the small bird already knew and tried to hide immediately

He must have been a late hatching baby. He looks brand new.

I know they're just trying to eat, but every time she leans her head down to get at the little one, and the others get in her way, all I can think is, "No mom! Don't take our baby brother! He's too cute to die!"

Edit: To everyone who keeps saying "that's not what's happening" - I KNOW. Please learn to comprehend what you're reading. I KNOW they're just trying to eat. I don't ACTUALLY think that they're thinking these things. I KNOW that baby birds don't give a shit about their siblings. I was just making a funny. Stop taking things so seriously and learn reading comprehension! It's been a YEAR and I'm still getting the same stupid response to something I was aware of BEFORE the first person even said it, let alone the many others after. I'm tired of these "Um, actually..." responses that think they're so smart for correcting me, when they AREN'T correcting me. They just don't know how to f**king read.

When some one says, "nature is beatiful".
Keep in mind what nature does to smaller ones like this...
Edit: I reconsider, yet, nature for me is still quite the awful place to think of morality.

i love how when the mom attempts to start picking up the baby it just starts a reflex for the whole nest to open their mouths as if the mom was gonna feed them

The fact that the older birds were trying to protect the chick but just gave up😢

The runt was never going to get enough food with those huge siblings around.
